The Giants defense has its way with Saquon Barkley

Highlights from Giants practice on Sunday:

Something Good

The first-team defensive line was impressive, frequently pushing back or standing up the first-team offensive line in running plays, leaving little room for running back Saquon Barkley and others to maneuver.

Something Bad

Receivers Bennie Fowler III and Russell Shepard each had drops in team drills, which is worth following. They will be needed to produce with Golden Tate suspended the first four games of the regular season.

Giants”]Caught my eye

Tight end CJ Conrad made the catch of the day, a leaping grab from Alex Tanney in traffic during team drills. That play will stand out in the film room.

Keep up with the Jones

It was a quiet day for Daniel Jones, who saw limited reps behind Eli Manning, and missed on a few passes down the field. However, he continued to get rid of the ball quickly, mostly in checkdowns to his running backs.

Injury report

WR Sterling Shepard (left thumb) practiced without a yellow non-contact jersey for the first time. WR Golden Tate (concussion protocol) and DT Dalvin Tomlinson (personal reasons) didn’t practice. CB Sam Beal (hamstring) and CB DeAndre Baker (knee) remained out. LB Alec Ogletree (calf), RB Wayne Gallman (foot) and OT Brian Mihalik (burner) returned to practice.
