RORY McILROY produced a STUNNING hole-in-one at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

The Northern Irishman, 34, holed from 214 yards to leave the American crowd in awe.

And golf fans realised it was an even more momentous moment when they were made aware it was McIlroy's first EVER hole-in-one on the PGA Tour.

The four-time major winner turned professional way back in 2007 and has 23 PGA wins to his name.

But until now he had never dropped the ball in from a tee shot.

Reacting to the achievement, one social media user said: "Crazy to think it's his first. Go Rory."

It is the Brit's first event since his heartbreaking second place at the US Open on the weekend.

He finished one shot off Wyndham Clark – who claimed his first major title in California.

But McIlroy remained positive despite narrowly missing out on ending his nine-year wait for a major.

He said: "I'm getting closer. The more I keep putting myself in these positions, sooner or later it's going to happen for me.

"I would go through 100 Sundays like this to get my hands on another major championship.

"When I do finally win this next major, it's going to be really, really sweet."
