Wigan’s Antonee Robinson left gutted as dream £10m AC Milan transfer falls through hours after landing in Italy – The Sun
ANTONEE ROBINSON'S dream move from Wigan to AC Milan has dramatically collapsed ahead of Friday night's deadline.
United States left back Robinson flew home distraught at a row over the nature of the surprise deal to the Serie A giants.
The 22-year-old was originally cleared to fly to Italy on a jet hired by Milan after the Championship club cleared his exit.
However Robinson, who was also sweet talked into moving by legend Paolo Maldini, found out the transfer was off just hours after touching down.
Milan had proposed a loan deal at first ahead of a deal worth up to £10million.
Wigan, however, demanded a full-time arrangement now before agreeing to the move.
The Latics owners then demanded that the £10million was paid up front rather than in instalments.
And neither side could sort out their differences, leading to Milan pulling out and Robinson heading home in shock.
The seven-cap US international only joined Wigan permanently last summer.
He signed a three-year contract after enjoying a productive loan spell from Everton at the DW Stadium last season.
Robinson never managed a first-team appearance for the Toffees, but did also have a loan spell with Bolton before joining Wigan.
He has made 30 appearances for the Latics this season, but it remains to be seen how he will react to being denied his dream move to Milan.
