All six seasons of Sister, Sister drop on Netflix – but is the beloved sitcom based on a true story?

SISTER, Sister (show)– did you know how much I missed ya? Along with a catchy theme song, amazing fashion and iconic phrases like – "Go home, Roger!", this 90s show was prime Saturday morning viewing.

And now all six seasons of Sister, Sister have dropped on Netflix – but is this beloved sitcom based on a true story?

Well, no. But if it makes you feel better, Tia and Tamara Landry were inspired by creator Kim Bass’s twin sisters.

Though Bass’s sisters weren’t separated at birth, brought up in different families and were finally reunited at a clothing store in a mall, he did base Tia and Tamera’s relationship on his own sisters’.

Along with Gary Gilbert and Fred Shafferman, the three ran with the idea and once actresses Tia and Tamera Mowry were hired for the roles, it became a reality.

According to Bass, the sisters brought a unique energy and identified closely with their characters, even picking their own roles.

“Tamera was a little more of a clown, and Tia was a bit more serious,” said Bass. “They decided which one they would have more fun playing.”

“They finished each other’s sentences,” recalls Bass. “They knew what each other thought and they could answer questions for one another.”

The 90s series followed the lives of Tia and Tamera, two identical twins who are separated from each other at birth.

In the credits (remember those awesome credits?) viewers learn that both girls were brought up in different families, and for years, remained blissfully unaware of each other’s existence.

That is until one day when they bump into each other in a clothing shop, at the mall – naturally – and life is changed forever.

To make up for lost time the girls decide to move in together and make their families one.

Over the course of the six amazing seasons, the show focuses on Tia and Tamara adjusting to life with each other.
