Ant and Dec embarrassed and forced off NTA stage after David Walliams humiliates duo

David Walliams took aim at his Britain’s Got Talent co-stars Ant and Dec throughout the awards ceremony from start to finish, even at one point telling them to leave the stage, the pair shown up in front of the O2 crowd and the viewers at home.

Comedian and Britain’s Got Talent Judge David Walliams made sure he made the National Television Awards ceremony his own with his first stint presenting the awards.

The show opened with him playing a version of himself auditioning on Britain’s Got Talent, with Ant and Dec wishing him the best before he took to the stage.

This version of David then faced a BGT panel all played by David, with his version of Simon Cowell wearing an almost entirely unbuttoned shirt.

Despite his reality show pals helping out with the opening sequence, they weren’t spared multiple ribbings from the comic.

David – who announced recently he and Matt Lucas were resurrecting Little Britain – zeroed his sights on the popular Geordie torturers from I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

Within minutes of taking the stage at London’s O2 Arena, he laid straight into them.

Spotting them in front of the stage, he told the audience the reason they were sat so near the front: “They’re on the front row, not because they’re important. It’s because they’ve forgotten their booster seats.”

That was just the beginning of the mickey-taking he had reserved for the pair.

Later on David suggested that the awards were the subject of Russian meddling in the voting process, citing “Russian interference” as the reason Ant and Dec won every year.

This was in reference to a report into Russian interference in British democracy, a report Prime Minister Boris Johnson has repeatedly said he will release, but hasn’t.

The pair then feigned annoyance and pretended they were taking over, only for David to storm back onto the centre of the stage.

“We are your hosts for the rest of the evening – Ant and Dec. So, still to come tonight, we have a jam-packed…,” said Dec, before David threw a strop and demanded they leave the stage.

Frustrated by the duo’s ubiquity, David told them: “You can’t present every show on ITV.”

Ant and Dec, of course, do not present every show on ITV. There is also Holly and Phil.

David begged for them to let him have this one opportunity: “Please can I have this one gig. It’s one night a year.”

Ant and Dec then played the bigger men – morally, if not physically – and relinquished control of the stage.

There was no need for David to be so insecure about their presence on stage.

He won the TV Judge category, beating RuPaul for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, The Voice UK’s Will.i.am, fellow Voice judge Tom Jones, and Simon Cowell for The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.

It was business as usual for Ant and Dec – they won the TV Presenter award for the 19th time.

The National Television Awards are available to watch on the ITV Hub.
