BBC bosses plan celebrity The Traitors after debut series huge success

The BBC's newest programme The Traitors is arguably the biggest surprise hit of the year, gripping the nation with its twists and turns, and leaving fans dubbing it "the best show ever".

Following the positive reaction, the BBC is said to be planning a celebrity version, which will act as a fundraiser for Children in Need or Comic Relief, with host Claudia Winkleman already having picked out the stars she'd love to see taking part.

An insider said: “Everyone’s been thrilled with how much love there’s been for The Traitors and a celebrity version is a natural next step.

“Viewers will get to see different sides of some big names as they try to manipulate others or uncover the truth about fellow players.”

Of her picks, Claudia told the Mirror: “Victoria Coren, Kirsty Young, Adam Woodyatt, Stephen Fry, Alison Hammond… let’s do that.”

Other stars she'd love to see on board include presenter Rylan Clark, Loose Women’s Judi Love, DJ Greg James and Corrie’s Sally Ann Matthews.

The BBC series saw 22 contestants in a remote Scottish castle (Ardross Castle in Inverness), competing for a potential prize of £120,000.

The contestants had to identify who amongst them were the Traitors rather than the Faithfuls, aiming to eliminate them from the game before they became the Traitors' next victim to be 'murdered' and leave the game.

The show finally came to an explosive end on Thursday night, with viewers of the show left reeling at the dramatic turn of events.

Ultimately, Aaron, Meryl and Hannah ended up walking away with the prize fund of just over £100,000, leaving each of them with more than £33k.

They won after a nail-biting moment which saw them correctly identify Wilfred as a Traitor.

Prior to the winner being revealed, the five finalists had to vote for someone who they thought was a "traitor" with everyone picking Kieran.

Eagle-eyed fans were 'buzzing as they noticed a key moment in proceedings – the point Hannah spotted her bestie Wilf's 'savage' betrayal.

It came as Kieran, who had been recruited by Wilfred as a traitor earlier in the week but was then betrayed by him, appeared to give a very pointed look to Hannah, to indicate that Wilfred was the Traitor.

The fan reaction to the show has been massively positive, with one person tweeting: “The Traitors is the best thing on TV right now #thetraitors,” another wrote, while a third added: “#TRAITORS IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!”

Another fan wrote: “The Traitors is the best thing that's happened to the United Kingdom in years.

At its height, the show pulled in 3.7million, with an impressive 17million views on BBC iPlayer.
