Behind-the-Scenes Staff Drama Shakes Up ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Revival

“BH920210,” the “Beverly Hills 90210” revival,  hasn’t even aired and there’s already drama.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith and several senior writers just quit the series.
One source dished to Variety that the dispute was over “interference from two of the show’s lead actresses” [insert tea-sipping gif] while another source claimed the writers were unhappy with one of the executives overseeing the project.
Writer Paul Sciarrotta has been promoted to showrunner along with series’ creators Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler.
The six-episode series brings back original ’90s stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling., who’ll be playing “heightened” versions of themselves. (Much like Matt LeBlanc on “Episodes.”)
It’s set to debut on Fox on August 7.
“Beverly Hills, 90210” premiered on Fox in 1990 and was one of the show’s biggest hits. It ran for 10 seasons and created spinoff “Melrose Place” and the CW follow-up series “90210.”
Interest in the revival is high: The initial teaser trailer had 18.4 million views across various platforms.
