Prince Andrew and Virginia Guiffre’s civil case was drawn to a close on Tuesday after their lawyers announced they had reached an out-of-court settlement. Virginia accused the Duke Of York of sexual abuse in connection to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has always denied the allegations. On Thursday’s instalment of Loose Women, panelists Denise Welch and Carol McGiffin clashed over the case and how it might affect the Queen’s jubilee celebrations later this year, with Carol asking: “Can we drop this?”

During the episode of the ITV talk show, Carol fumed: “They are the Royal Family, I just want them to be there, I don’t care actually.

“What is going on with them [Andrew and the Queen] because we don’t actually know?”

She added: “The point is we do not know. The speculation around the Royal Family is rife, it always has been.

“And they never apologise, they never explain, they never tell you anything so you don’t know.”

Referring to Andrew’s settlement, she added: “You don’t know where the money is coming from. Do we have the right to know where it is coming from?

“I don’t care where it’s coming from, whether it’s the public’s money or if it’s any of their money. We don’t even know if it’s £12million do we?”

Denise chimed in as Carol was in mid-speech and asked: “Do you think Prince Andrew should be stripped of his Royal title?

“Are you bothered about that, that he remains Prince Andrew? I think we will always call him Prince Andrew.”

However, Carol raged: “We still don’t actually know what happened, we don’t know.”

The pair clashed over the claims surrounding the Duke Of York and they continued to talk over one another while making different points.

Denise, who got increasingly louder as she tried to convey her views over her colleague, said: “Jeffrey Epstein has already been accused and found guilty of child sex offences.”

As she continued trying to speak, Carol cut her off and Kaye Adams stepped in to say Andrew has apologised for his friendship with Epstein.

Kaye, who was trying to act as the voice of reason, said: “And that is the extent of it.

“He has made a settlement, we don’t know much it is for and it has gone to Virginia Giuffre charity.”

Carol added: “There is no day in court so we will never know, but even if there had have been we’d never know anyway.

“Because it’s all he said she said so you never know who to believe.”

Their row comes in the wake of suggestions the Royal Family wants to move on from the claims surrounding Prince Andrew as this year marks Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Andrew’s legal representatives said the Duke Of York has “never intended to malign Virginia’s character” and he “regrets his association” with Epstein.

The letter from the legal representatives read: “It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years.

“Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein and commends the bravery of Ms Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
