Smith told TheWrap he wants you to “take Davis MacLean with a grain of salt.”

He also described playing the character as his toughest challenge he's had as an actor and revealed a similarity between his character and US President Donald Trump.

He revealed: "They both have a me, me, me thing going on, he’s (the character) is kinda teetering on: you don’t know whether you like him or don’t like him yet, whether you trust him or don’t trust him yet."

The musician also looked to a movie character for inspiration, adding: "I did kind of pattern him after Denzel (Washington’s Joe Miller character) in ‘Philadelphia,' but with some "swagger."

The former Wu-Tang Clan member commented on whether his goal is to make a complete transition from being called Method Man to his real name.

Dwayne Johnson has gone through a similar phase after making his name as The Rock throughout his time in WWE, but he is being addressed more by his real name as time goes on.

Smith admitted: "I had fought with that for a while and I wanted that.

"But ‘Method Man’ is what got me here, so I wear it like a badge of honor. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what they name me, so long as I’m present and I’m there."
