Corrie star reveals Sarah 'feels sick' after hotel room liaison with Damon

Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) is about to get herself into a whole heap of trouble in Coronation Street when she storms off after an argument with husband Adam (Sam Robertson) – and ends the day by inviting Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) back to her hotel room.

Damon was last seen in Weatherfield not long after armed men stormed the bistro to get their hands on the drugs that Damon had been forcing Nick (Ben Price) to store in the restaurant. Nick’s son Sam (Jude Riordan) was caught up in the horrific siege, and this finally made up Nick’s mind to stand up the evil drug dealer and call the police on Damon, who was arrested.

Sarah’s argument with Adam comes about when she realises that her husband has agreed to act as Damon’s legal representative.

‘Sarah has heard what he did to her brother, and she’s absolutely fuming that Adam would get involved with this guy,’ Tina O’Brien told us. ‘Adam understandably says it’s business and he needs the money but Sarah says look it’s not about the money, this is family and you’re basically siding with the guy that’s made my brother’s life hell.’

Heated words are exchanged between Adam and Sarah and she storms off to a hotel that they’d booked for a romantic getaway, still fuming about her husband’s decision. And in the hotel bar she meets Damon – though she has no idea who she’s talking to.

‘She has a few drinks at the bar and bumps into this guy and they end up getting chatting,’ Tina said. ‘There probably is an attraction there. It’s that freedom that he doesn’t know anything about her life, she can put all her life stress to the side and just have a bit of meaningless flirt at the bar, basically.’

Sarah eventually invites the mystery man back to her room. ‘I think she’s just got caught up in the moment,’ Tina said in her character’s defence. ‘He also does goad her a little bit, reminding her she said she was an independent woman who can make her own mind up. For a minute she just thinks screw you Adam, because he has said a few mean things to her in the Rovers. So she invites him up but I think once she gets him up there, reality kicks in and she realises this is a bad idea. It’s then a matter of whether she’ll back away from the situation before more damage is done.’

Whether Sarah will go through with spending the night with Damon remains to be seen, but Tina described how her character would react to the knowledge that the man in the hotel was the same one who’d caused massive problems for her brother.

‘Oh, she’s gonna feel sick. I mean, like, literally feel sick to her stomach,’ she revealed. ‘It’s all kinds of messy and complicated. Obviously, what she did was wrong to begin with, and she probably feels really guilty anyway. But the last thing she needed was the complication of it being Damon. she’s quite happy in her marriage, this definitely isn’t something she’s looking for, she’s well aware it’s all kinds of wrong.’

As for Damon, he’ll have no qualms about stirring up all kinds of trouble between Sarah, Adam and Nick, Tina predicted.

‘I think he’ll find it hilarious, I just don’t think he’ll care, he’s got nothing to lose and will think it’s funny.’
