Danniella Westbrook enjoys shopping trip after EastEnders outburst over recast

Former EastEnders star Danniella Westbrook has been pictured out-and-about trying on a range of hats while shopping in Leeds.

The actress, who played Sam Mitchell in the BBC One soap, was seen trying on a few flat caps and a woolly number during the impromptu shopping spree.

The 48-year old star didn’t stop there with her shopping, on the lookout for a few cards which read ‘Bad Ass Mum’ and ‘Dad You’re Bloomin’ Marbelous’.

Danniella’s shopping spree comes shortly after she hit out at EastEnders, following the news that Kim Medcalf had been chosen to reprise the role of Sam.

The soap star stated the EastEnders would be hearing from her ‘legal team’ and hinted at future revelations that she has ‘never told’ in her upcoming book.

Danniella made her debut in the role of Sam in 1990, and last appeared in Albert Square in 2016.

She claimed that soap bosses ‘had a responsibility to tell her’ about the decision to recast, and revealed that she hadn’t been told about it until it was announced publicly.

Speaking to The Sun, Danniella said: ‘I’ve been known as Sam Mitchell for 32 years. But nobody at EastEnders contacted me to let me know they had recast Kim in the role. There wasn’t even an email to my agent.

‘I was shocked because they do have a responsibility to tell me and someone should have.’

In the wake of the news, Danniella took to Twitter, claiming that EastEnders would hear from her legal team.

On January 28, EastEnders confirmed that Sam would stage another comeback on the soap this year, but that it would be Kim Medcalf who’d reprise the role.

In a statement, Kim said: ‘When the BBC approached me last year to reprise the role of Sam I was thrilled.

‘She’s a brilliant character and I can’t wait to get back in the Square and work with the amazing cast.’
