‘Do me a favour’ Piers Morgan rips into luvvie Hollywood stars preaching about climate

Piers Morgan ranted over hypocrisy in the celebrity world after it was revealed the BAFTA Film Awards asked stars to make sustainable fashion choices on the red carpet and stars accepting awards shared their political views. The Good Morning Britain host didn’t hold back as he hit out at stars eating plant-based meals at the awards shows but using private jets and limousines to travel to the star-studded events.

Piers began: “When I saw Russell Crowe urging people to pay more attention to bushfires in Australia, I think that’s absolutely a good use of profile.

“The problem comes if they all preach one thing and then do another in their own lives.

“For example all the award shows in Hollywood have gone plant based on their menu and they are all making a big deal about this stunning contribution.

“Also we were told that we had to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge because they wore outfits they have worn before, as if somehow wearing a tuxedo more than once is a huge sacrifice to saving the planet.

“My problem with that is we know how these stars get to BAFTA and the Oscars.

“They fly on private jets, they have limos that pick them up, they have helicopters.

“in other words their own lifestyle choices bear no relation to any of the supposed virtue that they want to signal that by eating a bit of kale over dinner.”

Jenny Runacre explained: “Well it is a difficult situation. I do think you have to try and promote. You’ve got a public platform you should bring up issues you are interested in and obviously climate change is a huge problem, it’s a panic station problem, but if you are a celebrity and you have to get from A to B really quickly and you have to fly it’s very difficult not to do it.”

“But you don’t have to use a private jet,” Piers hit back.

“It’s actually far, far better for your carbon footprint to be on a passenger plane, as I will be today going to LA, I’ve flown private before.

“First class is fine, you can survive in first class and this of course was a problem that Meghan and Harry got into when they were preaching about everyone’s carbon footprint and then they’re borrowing Elton John’s private plane.

“The hypocrisy is my point, should stars be preaching if they are actually being hypocritical?”

Jenny replied: “Well yes. They are still bringing a point up and they are still delivering something.

“Even if it is hypocritical, I think you’ve got to forgive them.”

Susanna chipped in to add: “We were talking to Bernie Sanders brother who said you cannot keep targeting individuals for action, because there is going to be a hypocrite in all of our lives.

“It’s about bringing the influence, say what it is and hope the government will take action.”

But Piers fumed: “The hypocrisy runs deep in Hollywood.

“My problem is when you see someone like Kim Kardashian preaching about the environment, I think, ‘Do me a favour,’ every single part of her life is spent in luxury on private jets.

“Anyone can be a whiner on social media, we could all go on today and start banging on about stuff or you can keep quiet.”

Good Morning Britain continues on ITV tomorrow at 6am.
