Strictly Come Dancing returned on Saturday night, and saw the remaining celebrity contestants take to the ballroom floor in a bid to impress the judges. However, tonight, two couples will land in the bottom two, meaning they will have to dance again, hoping it’s enough to stay in the competition.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk about who could make the final, body language expert Darren Stanton believes Ellie Simonnds’ competitiveness could get her there.
On behalf of Betfair Bingo, the expert began: “Every contestant in the competition is clearly motivated and determined to win the glitterball trophy.
“However, I do believe Ellie Simmonds takes competitiveness to a whole new level, especially with her athletics background.
“In recent weeks I have seen Ellie’s external behaviour change as she mentally gears herself into the final stages of the competition.
“Judging from her nonverbal behaviour, the expressions around Ellie’s eyes have changed to show sheer passion and determination to win.
“There has definitely been a real shift in her emotions as she now feels she is on the homeward straight to win. “
Darren went on to discuss who Ellie’s biggest competition is on the show.
“I believe Ellie sees Kym [Marsh] and Hamza [Yassin] as her main competition,” the experr continued.
“At certain points, it feels as though Ellie is almost analysing them herself.
“I think we are going to see even more passion and determination from Ellie as the pressure mounts towards the semi-final.”
The Paralympian and her dance partner Nikita Kuzmin wowed the judges last night with their performance.
Ellie’s determination showed as they were awarded 33 points putting them near the top of the leaderboard.
Tess Daly greeted the duo after their energic performance to see what the judges’ thoughts
“Honestly, that was another level!” Motsi Mabuse beamed before adding: “I am watching you, and I’m like, ‘Look at her go.
“You know what, things can go wrong, we all get a bit nervous but you came and you put your heart on the dance floor, and this is what this show is about.”
Shirley Ballas agreed with Motsi, adding: “It’s that Paralympian mentality, that strength.
“You are not going to give up, no matter what. You didn’t miss a beat.
“It had the wow factor, you trusted your partner… that end lift there!”
“You live for that sort of reaction,” Anton du Beke chipped in. “That is what you do it for, for that. It was absolutely incredible.
“You had everything in it, there’s nothing quite as satisfying for a professional than to do a great number, have great confidence in your partner, wander off, come back and she’s still there.
“I have to tell you, that’s rarely happened to me – they wander off!”
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
