Matty Barton (played by Ash Palmisciano) was never supposed to find out Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) killed Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) on Emmerdale. Matty’s stepdad Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is covering for his 10-year-old son and only a handful of residents know the truth. When Matty threatened his mother, Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb), he would tell the village Kyle murdered Al on the latest episode of the ITV soap, fans were left fearing he could end up being silenced by Cain.

On Wednesday’s episode of Emmerdale, Matty was determined to find out the truth about why Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and Moira had fled with Kyle.

Cain’s sister Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) was left panicking when Matty revealed he’d got a visiting order to see Cain in prison.

In the prison, Matty set out his case to Cain but was instantly shot down by the soap’s hard man.

Cain thought he had put Matty’s suspicions to bed but the latter did not believe a word of the story.

Later on, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) ended up revealing Kyle was the real killer to Matty who was not pleased to have been left out of the loop.

Speaking outside The Woolpack, Mackenzie warned Matty: “You need to keep quiet.”

However, Matty replied: “You need to get your phone out and call my mum because if you don’t I am going to go inside and tell the whole pub that Kyle shot Al – and don’t think I won’t because I am that close.”

Matty snatched the phone off Mackenzie and told Moira: “Mum, you need to come home and bring Amy and Kyle with you.

“Mack’s told me everything, you need to come home or I don’t know what I might do.”

Emmerdale fans flocked to Twitter with their theories about what might happen to Matty following his blackmail plot.

Linda Nutbein suggested: “Cain should get somebody to beat Matty up for threatening to tell about Kyle.”

Michelle penned: “Matty is so childish it’s pathetic! If Cain was still in the village he would have chased Matty out by now #Emmerdale.”

Kelly said: “Is Matty just thinking of himself here?! They took Kyle away so it didn’t get out because it was the best option and now he’s threatening to tell everyone if they don’t come back?! #Emmerdale.”

Ryan added: “Cain’s going to go berserk now that Mack has just confessed to Matty #Emmerdale.”

Eileen remarked: “I don’t how Amy is going to react to you threatening to drop her son in it Matty because you weren’t let in on the big secret.

“You just proved them right, throwing a hissy fit because you feel left out. #Emmerdale.”

@CxxPIPxx shared: “Matty cares about his mum, girlfriend and Kyle so much that he’s blackmailing them to come home or he’ll blab about the shooting? #Emmerdale.”

Will news get back to Cain about Matty’s blackmailing plot?

Is there a way Cain can make contact with a connection who could kill Matty off before he shares Kyle’s secret with the entire village?

Will the Dingle family turn against Matty and try to pin Al’s murder on him to protect Kyle and teach him a brutal lesson?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
