Emmys 2022: Zendaya, Lee Jung-Jae Take Major Awards – See the Full Winners
The 74th annual Emmy awards also sees ‘The White Lotus’ celebrating its big night after collecting five wins including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
AceShowbiz –Zendaya Coleman scored one of the biggest awards at the 2022 Emmy Awards, which was held at the Microsoft Theatre on Monday, September 12. The “Spider-Man: No Way Home” actress took home the Emmy of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, thanks to her stunning portrayal of Rue Bennett on “Euphoria“.
The actress, who brought classic Hollywood glamour to the red carpet in a strapless black Valentino gown and satin headband on the red carpet , bested out fellow nominees that included Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve“), Laura Linney (“Ozark“), Melanie Lynskey (“Yellowjackets“), Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”) and Reese Witherspoon (“The Morning Show“). This was the 26-year-old star’s second non-consecutive win for the category.
“Thank you for making such a safe space to make this very difficult show. I love you all so much,” said Zendaya in her speech. “Thank you to the Academy, thank you to my friends and family, some of which are here tonight. Thank you to Sam [Levinson] for sharing Rue with me. Thank you for believing in me, even in moments where I didn’t believe in myself.”
She went on to say that her “greatest wish for ‘Euphoria’ was that it could help heal people.” She added, “Anyone who has loved a Rue, or feels like a Rue, I want you to know that I’m so grateful for your stories, and I carry them with me, and I carry them with her. So, thank you very much.”
As for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, the big honor went to Jean Smart for her performance on HBO’s “Hacks“. On the show, Smart perfectly nailed her character, comedian Deborah Vance. Marking the second Emmy for “Ted Lasso“, the hit comedy show earned a trophy for director MJ Delaney as he won Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Meanwhile, Jesse Armstrong was honored with Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for his work for “Succession“.
Marking as another history-making win at this year’s ceremony, Lee Jung-Jae officially became an Emmy winner as he was named Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his charismatic performance on “Squid Game“. The star, who is known for his role as Seong Gi-Hun a.k.a. Player 465 on the hit Netflix series, is the first South Korean as well as the first actor of Asian descent to win the Emmy for the category.
“The White Lotus” further celebrated its big night with a fifth win. The show snagged the statuette for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. “Ted Lasso” also took home one of the coveted awards of that night, winning Outstanding Comedy Series for the second consecutive year. As for the best drama award, it went to HBO’s “Succession”.
