Everything You Missed in the New 'The Handmaid's Tale' Trailer

The Handmaid’s Tale will return to Hulu for its fourth season on April 28. To announce the new season’s premiere date, Hulu released a new trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale.

Based on the new trailer, fans can expect Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale to focus on the rebellion against Gilead. While the trailer shows the big picture, there were several moments that give away key plot points about the new season.

How Season 3 of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ ended

At the end of Season 3, June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) worked with Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford), Marthas, and Handmaids to help children escape Gilead.

While the children, Rita (Amanda Brugel), and a few other Marthas make it to Canada, June stays behind and is shot while distracting a Guardian to allow the others to escape.

She is rescued by Alma (Nina Kiri), Janine (Madeline Brewer), and other Handmaids. The season ends with the Handmaids carrying June on a makeshift stretcher.

June will travel to Chicago in Season 4 of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

On Feb. 25, Hulu released an official trailer for Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale. It seems that a large focus of the season will take place in Chicago, which is a battleground on the show with heavy resistance against Gilead.

In the opening scene of the trailer, June wears a yellow sweatshirt, blue hat, and a backpack in an empty street in Chicago. The next scene shows June and Janine riding into Chicago in the back of a pickup truck while wearing their Handmaids uniforms.

“You are tuned to Radio Free America, number one source for news of the resistance,” a voiceover says. “Global sanctions on Gilead are mounting as the latest wave of violence continues. No matter where the war finds you today, just remember we are still here.”

At different points in the trailer, June is shown once again wearing the yellow sweatshirt while looking at guns sitting on a table. Another scene shows two Handmaids running alongside a train track, and one can assume this could be Janine and June.

June and Janine are then seen running through the streets of Chicago while wearing their undercover clothes, and an explosion goes off behind them. It also looks like Moira (Samira Wiley) joins the fight in Chicago, meaning she could reunite with June at some point.

The new trailer has more details about the season

While Chicago seems to be the main highlight of the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale, the trailer shows a number of notable moments that will hold importance.

For starters, fans see Mckenna Grace as Mrs. Keyes, a young Wife who will encounter June during the season. Mrs. Keyes is shown sitting at a table with June and her friends as they are disguised as Marthas. In another scene, June appears to be telling Mrs. Keyes to join the resistance.

June is then seen attempting to strangle Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd). At the beginning of the trailer, Aunt Lydia appears with a bruised face as she talks about the damage June could cause.

Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) are seen wearing normal clothes and outside of their holding cells, making their fate in Season 4 unknown.

June’s daughter Hannah (Jordana Blake) is briefly shown, and the trailer reveals that at some point in the season Commander Lawrence and Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) will speak about June. Toward the end of the trailer, June and Nick share a passionate kiss.

June might escape in Season 4 of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

For three seasons, June has remained in Gilead, frustrating some viewers of the show. However, the newest trailer hints that June could end up escaping, at least temporarily.

A the end of the trailer, June is shown on a dock with a group of people in broad daylight. There are three large SUVs on the dock, and near a ship the Canadian flag hangs on a flag pole, hinting that June possibly makes it out of Gilead.

June stares at the camera, her face bruised, and in a voiceover she says, “My name is June Osborne. I am a citizen of the United States.”

Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale will premiere on Hulu on April 28.
