Fast and Furious jumpstarted its franchise back in 2001 with the plucky, exciting story of two men and their cars. Fronted by Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, the film landed an incredible $207 million, ensuring the franchise would continue as long as it was profitable. This year was supposed to see the long-awaited ninth film in the franchise – F9.
Although F9 has not yet been released, the next films in the franchise have been announced.
The as of yet untitled Fast and Furious 10 and 11 have now been reported by Deadline.
While fans of the franchise will be excited about this news, all good things must come to an end.
It was also announced that F11 will be the final film in the series, bringing the story of Diesel’s Dominic Toretto to a conclusive end.
Justin Lin will be returning as director of the films, bringing his ongoing stories to an end.
Lin has directed five films – Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, and F9 – with F10 and F11 his sixth and seventh entries to the franchise.
Even more interesting is the news that F10 and F11 may be telling one story over the course of two films.
This release tactic of concluding a franchise in two films has been seen in the likes of Harry Potter, Twilight, Avengers, and The Hunger Games.
The final two movies in the franchise will also reportedly bring back all of the classic members of the series, including Michelle Rodriguez, and Ludacris.
Nothing is known about the plot of the newly announced films just yet, but it will surely include enough of a threat to Toretto and his team that will require two films to solve it.
Over the course of the eight films so far, the Fast and Furious series has grossed over $6 billion.
It has also kick-started a spin-off series, titled Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, as well as a number of cartoon TV series.
Two more spin-off films have been announced, including a sequel to Hobbs & Shaw, and a female-led film.
Fans recently got a glimpse into what might happen in F9 when Ludacris appeared on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle show.
While discussing his time on the franchise, Cagle mentioned the team in the films going to space.
To which, Ludacris teased: “You just said something very important.
“I will say you’re very intuitive because you said something right – but I’m not going to give it away!”
Cagle became extremely excited after Ludacris’ outburst, causing her to push him further.
Ludacris simply replied: “No you just said it i can’t! I don’t know what you said…”
To which Cagle replied: “Space, I said space!”
“I will say you’re very intuitive because you said something right – but I’m not going to give it away!”
Excited by this news, Cagle pushed Ludacris further, prompting some denials from the star.
He replied: “No you just said it i can’t! I don’t know what you said…”
To which Cagle replied: “Space, I said space!”
Ludacris then made a shocked face, supposedly confirming the theory that the team will jettison out of the atmosphere in F9.
Fast 9 will is due for release in cinemas May 28, 2021.
