Freddie Starr's funeral to take place in THEATRE with celeb comic pals cracking jokes to fans
FREDDIE Starr will take his final bow on stage as his funeral will be in a theatre packed with fans, it was reported last night.
Celebrity pals will also turn out to pay tribute at the ceremony being planned at a venue in his hometown of Liverpool.
The late comic died last month from a heart attack at his Costa del Sol home aged 76.
He was found dead by his Bulgarian live-in carer Nelly Georgieva, 46, in Mijas after she returned from a 30 minute shopping trip.
There were fears that the beloved comedian – who was estranged from his family – would be given only a pauper's funeral in Spain.
But a kind-hearted Brit funeral director offered to pay £8,000 to repatriate Freddie and cover the costs of a proper send-off.
His funeral is due take place on stage with his old comedian pals cracking jokes for fans.
A source told the Sunday Mirror that Freddie would have seen it as "a fitting tribute".
And two of Freddie's ex-wives – Donna and Sophie – along with some of his six children are set to attend.
It's unclear which specific venue organisers have settled on.
But Starr’s funeral director Michael Fogg is reportedly due to meet venue bosses in Liverpool on Tuesday.
After the ceremony, Freddie will be laid to rest next to his mum and dad with poppy seeds scattered out of respect.
Mr Fogg told the Sunday Mirror: “We are talking to a theatre.
"They’ve said, ‘He was on stage here, you can use this’.
"They worked closely with him. It’s a good possibility, but I need to meet them first.
"Hopefully we will be able to make this happen.
“It would be a fitting tribute to Freddie if we could.
"He spent most of his life on stage and his family have said he wouldn’t want it to be in a church."
Freddie was one of the biggest stars of the 70s, 80s and 90s – and at the height of his fame earned an estimated £2million a year.
Fans loved his wacky, wild, and unpredictable behaviour.
But he had recently become a penniless recluse after a recent comeback bid flopped.
His funeral is set to take place in either June or July.
