Frozen 2 box office: How much has Frozen 2 made? The staggering sum revealed

Frozen 2 has, needless to say, been a huge hit with fans of all ages. The film shows the continued adventures of Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) and her sister Anna (Kristen Bell) as they try once more to save their home. With children likely dragging their parents and guardians to the cinema, it seems likely the movie has taken a fair amount in ticket sales since its release on November 22.

How much has Frozen 2 made at the box office?

Since its release, as far as has been documented, Frozen 2 has made a staggering $738,573,344 (£571,773,939.99) worldwide.

That is almost as much as the first movie made in the USA in total when it was released in 2013, and is certainly nearing Frozen’s total of $1.3billion (£989.6million.)

In the USA alone, Frozen 2 has made $287,573,344 (£222,627,377.39) so far, while it has banked $451,000,000 (£349,145,528.60) in other countries.

These other countries include the UK, where the film has opened to a huge success.

So far, the takings outside of the USA has already exceeded the takings of the original Frozen movie, which took $400,738,009 (£310,281,421.92) in total.

This means, if Frozen 2 continues at the rate it has already, the film is on course to overtake its predecessor in terms of box office takings.

The success of the first film certainly cemented its future in the Disney franchise canon, and absolutely secured the second Frozen movie.

As a result, it seems like that, if Frozen 2 can beat Frozen in the box office standings, it seems absolutely likely a Frozen 3 will come to cinemas.

However, the second Frozen movie took six years to come to the big screen, and it seems likely this would be the same situation for a Frozen 3 – meaning fans may have to wait until 2025 before seeing the third outing of their favourite characters.

The fans of Frozen should not be too disheartened though, as the team at Disney is always keen to make sure Frozen lovers are occupied in the intervening years.

In the case of Frozen, there were various short films, a musical and a play which were scattered in the years between Frozen and Frozen 2, with Frozen Fever being released in 2015 and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure coming out in 2017.

As well as that, a “musical spectacular” came out in 2016 before a 2018 Broadway production hit the stage in 2018.

At present, the Broadway musical is currently on a national tour as it seems the theatre audiences were not quite behind the production in the same way young fans love the movie.

Clearly, this is a franchise which belongs on the big screen, as is obvious by how well-attended the Frozen 2 screenings have been.

Hopefully fans will be able to hold on tight until the third Frozen comes out – though at present nothing has been confirmed.

What is Frozen 2 about?

The official synopsis reads: “Why was Elsa (Idina Menzel) born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom.

“Together with Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf (Josh Gad) and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey.”

The film reunites the cast of the first film, as well as bringing in some new characters.
