Gavin and Staceys Neil The Baby is now a teenager – and hes back on TV

Fans of Gavin and Stacey will remember Neil the Baby from the hit BBC sitcom.

Neil, played by then one-year-old Oscar Hartland, was the son of the much-loved characters Nessa (Ruth Jones) and Smithy (James Cordon). Oscar even returned to the set of Gavin and Stacey with all of the original cast back in 2019 for the Christmas special episode.

Now, the child actor is all grown up, and the 14-year-old teenager is venturing out to do his own projects and he's a fully-fledged rockstar.

Although he first found fame through acting, Oscar now seems to have fallen in love with music and this weekend, as ITV's The Voice Kids makes a comeback onto our screens, so will the teenager .

Oscar is currently the frontman of the band Redwood City but will be auditioning solo to impress the show's judges Danny Jones,, Pixie Lott and Ronan Keating.

He'll be showing off his vocal range by singing Foo Fighters' Hero, which he's perfected on stage with his band mates who specialise in grungy rock music.

Oscar told The Sun: “It was weird being on the studio stage without the band, but I thought I’d just do what I do with the boys and hopefully get a result out of it.

“I went into it wanting Danny to turn, or Ronan. But it was really something.”

Oscar was first cast as Neil the Baby when his mum Kirsty heard Gavin and Stacey's producers were looking for youngsters local to Barry Island in Wales – where the show is set.

Reflecting on his time on the show, Oscar said he knew he was Neil the Baby but it was only when he appeared in the Christmas episode that he experienced fame. His life "literally turned around" and he was even recognised in the supermarket when he was out with his mum.

He said he uses the role to his advantage, telling girls that he has a crush on that he was in the show and answering the door by saying 'Gavin and Stacey….Neil The Baby'.

Oscar will be back on screens on Saturday night when the show starts at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
