Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard are making the move from the small to the big screen, landing roles in a new blockbuster animation.
The Good Morning Britain stars, who have been close friends for over 20 years, landed cameo roles in the new Tom and Jerry film, set for release in May.
Titled Tom & Jerry: The Movie, the new Hollywood flick is a revival of the classic hit cartoon, starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Colin Jost.
Ben, 46, and Kate, 53, will play two animated elephants in the film, sending an Indian wedding into turmoil when they stampede the dance floor in the slapstick comedy.
Opening up about the new gig on Friday’s GMB, Kate joked the role, playing an elephant with an exceedingly posh accent, was "made for her".
Ben revealed he was a fan of Tom and Jerry growing up, glued to the antics of the cartoon cat and mouse throughout childhood.
He joked: "Suggestions that we’ve been typecast are harsh but probably fair.
"What a thrill though, Tom and Jerry is such a hugely important part of my life and Kate’s life as kids growing up and watching it.
"So the fact they’re bringing it to the big screen, it’s that mixture of animation and live-action. I initially was really nervous because I’m so fond of Tom and Jerry, but watching what they’ve done is amazing."
Kate praised the production, promising Tom and Jerry fans the Warner Bros production maintained the same magic as the original cartoon series.
She said: "They’ve kept the energy of the original Tom and Jerry, haven’t they?
"They’ve kept the fun and the frivolity which I was desperate for, the humour and the wryness of it, and that rivalry. But they’ve just really updated it beautifully and made it more fun."
While the wedding party is their stand-out scene in the movie, Kate was quick to assure fans they appeared elsewhere in the feature-length film.
Kate added: "We are in more than one scene, by the way, just to point out. I don’t just go, ‘Ooooh’!"
The presenting duo revealed they filmed their scenes some time ago, with social distancing measures in place in the recording booth.
Kate also filled fans in on the backstage drama, revealing she’d been compared to a former British Prime Minister thanks to her plummy accent on set.
She laughed: "I was accused of being a bit too Margaret Thatcher, wasn’t I?"
Ben replied: "A little bit of Margaret Thatcher in there, dial down the Iron Lady."
Warner Bros have revealed they will release all of their films online, meaning cartoon buffs will be able to watch Tom and Jerry from the comfort of their homes.
Along with much-anticipated flicks like Space Jam: A New Legacy, Tom and Jerry will be released on HBO Max, as well as enjoying distribution in cinemas up and down the UK.
Encouraging fans to head to cinemas upon its release, Kate said: "It was so much fun to do, we were so thrilled to be asked. I think the movie is going to be brilliant."
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
