Holly Willoughby fumes at Boris Johnson over lack of coronavirus tests

Holly Willoughby fumed at Prime Minister Boris Johnson on today’s This Morning, over the lack of coronavirus tests available in the UK.

More than one million people have been infected around the world, with the UK Covid-19 death toll rising to 2,352.

Johnson, who has tested positive for the condition, shared a video on Wednesday, insisting that testing is ‘so important’ and is ‘how we will unlock the coronavirus puzzle’.

However, an unimpressed Holly took aim at his clip, explaining that way more needed to be done.

During a chat with Dr Zoe, the discussion got around to coronavirus testing, and the lack of equipment.

And the 39-year-old fumed: ‘What’s frustrating here is there’s him saying, “This is the way through, this is the most important thing, this is the key to unlocking it…”

‘Well, he has the key, he’s the Prime Minister! And the promises they’ve made so far, they haven’t delivered on.

‘You can understand now why an awful lot of people are getting really frustrated and angry about this.’

Agreeing, Phillip Schofield added: ‘There seems to be rhetoric over content here.’

Holly’s words come after Boris claimed the UK is ramping up testing, following the news that just 2,000 1.3 million NHS staff have been tested so far.

In comparison, Germany has been testing about 500,000 people a week, while Britain has struggled to hit its target of 10,000 tests a day.

‘I want to say a special word about testing because it is so important,’ he said.

‘As I have said for weeks and weeks, this is the way through. This is how we will unlock the coronavirus puzzle, this is how we will defeat it in the end.’

Speaking of the surge in coronavirus deaths, he said: ‘This has been a sad, sad day, 563 more cases – a record in a single day. Our thoughts go out to the families of the victims all their friends.

‘It’s crucial that people that do have the disease are able to be tested positive and take the necessary steps to isolate at home.’

This Morning continues on weekdays, at 10am, on ITV.
