Hugh Jackman Reacts to Michelle Williams Comments About Joining The Greatest Showman Sequel
The actor portraying PT Barnum in the 2017 movie musical shares his feelings about the sequel after his co-star says that she’ll be involved in the possible follow-up ‘in a heartbeat.’
AceShowbiz –Hugh Jackman has shared his response upon learning of Michelle Williams‘ desire to join the potential “The Greatest Showman” sequel. In a new interview, the PT Barnum depicter in the movie musical showed his excitement.
The 53-year-old actor weighed in on the matter when making an appearance at the 2022 Tony Awards nominees event on Thursday, May 12 in New York City. He jokingly told PEOPLE, “Listen, if you know anything about my filmography, you’d know I’m totally against sequels in every shape or form. No more than nine films!”
“I’m always open, if they come up with a good idea,” Hugh further said. The “X-Men” film series star, who was Tony-nominated for his role as Professor Harold Hill in the Broadway revival of “The Music Man”, went on stressing, “Yeah, I’m open!”
Earlier that day, Variety released an article in which Michelle said that she wants to make a sequel to “The Greatest Showman”. The actress portraying Charity Barnum, who is PT Barnum’s wife, told the outlet, “I would make another one of those in a heartbeat.”
“I wish they’d make a sequel,” Michelle added. The “Manchester by the Sea” star later highlighted that she loves how the blockbuster gave audiences “so much joy.” She elaborated more, “That movie brought so much joy to so many people and to make people that happy, man that is a worthwhile thing to spend your time doing. I really love that movie.”
Michelle, who is a mother to 16-year-old daughter Matilda, later shared, “My daughter Matilda sang those songs. My mom is still listening to that soundtrack.” She continued, “I love making things for kids that are full of joy and positivity.”
The film, which grossed $434.9 million globally, follows circus master PT Barnum and features original music by Tony Award-winning “Dear Evan Hansen” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. It also stars Zac Efron and Zendaya Coleman.
