I'm so scared to walk home at night I turn around every 30 seconds, admits BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty | The Sun

NAGA Munchetty has revealed she is "so scared" to walk home on her own at night she "turns around every 30 seconds".

The BBC Breakfast star was discussing women's safety on her BBC Radio 5 Live Show earlier this week.

Naga told a caller called Chris: "So I'm 5ft'4, I do walk with keys in my hand. I'm quite small framed.

"If I'm walking alone, I reckon I look round at least every 30 seconds and I'm constantly surveying what's going on in front, to the side and behind me.

"And if I, say I turned the corner and I hadn't seen you, or you just turned a corner onto a road and ended up behind me, let's say 20 paces behind me, but I could hear your footsteps, the thing that would help me is if I heard something, so even if it was a clearing of the throat or music or a phone conversation, I would acknowledge you and probably appreciate…I would feel safer, it's not about my appreciation… I would feel safer if the man who was walking behind me crossed the road, if it was possible and sped up. So ended up in front of me.

"Because then I wouldn't have to worry about what you were doing behind me, and if you were going to run up to me or run up behind me and hit me, or take something from me, or push me."

The clip was posted on the show's official Twitter account and it prompted one listener to reply: "And I would prefer it if you were not so paranoid @TVNaga01."

Naga replied: "So would I Simon."

Naga had plenty of support following the person's tweet, with one writing: "I’m sure Naga would love to not be constantly vigilant when she’s out walking as would lots of women that I know.

"Perhaps if some men didn’t give them cause to be like this then they wouldn’t be."

A fellow fan added: "Well said, Naga. We would all love to be less paranoid and do things like go running when we wake up rather than waiting for sunrise."

Meanwhile a fourth shared: "Brilliant response Naga x."
