ITV GMB: Piers Morgan’s LA home in danger from California wildfire, warns Laura Tobin

Piers Morgan is currently on a break from Good Morning Britain while he holidays in America, but it seems he is in Los Angeles at the wrong time as the city is being consumed by wildfires which threaten to destroy the homes of thousands. However, GMB weather presenter Laura Tobin has suggested it will get worse before it gets better.

Wildfires have been raging through LA since Saturday 26 October and as a result many have had to evacuate.

ITV presenter Piers’s £4.2million LA mansion is one of those that is under threat of being destroyed by the fire.

The journalist revealed on Monday that he is preparing for evacuation.

Yesterday, he posted a picture on his Instagram account which featured the emergency alerts he received, calling for evacuation.

The GMB host wrote: “Yikes. Rather discomforting msgs to wake up to. The Getty museum is just 3 miles away.

“These fires are horrific, hard to explain to people back home how big and savage they get here in California, and how fast the changing winds can take them in a completely different direction.”

Providing more information, weather reporter Laura explained that the dry weather, combined with dry wind causes the fire to spread quickly. She said: “Right now, it is horrific and, unfortunately, it will only get worse.”

Speaking to Good Morning Britain viewers today, she explained that there are “seventy fires burning in total in California”.

“They’re expecting it to continue through Wednesday and Thursday,” she continued.

The reporter pointed at the screen behind her which featured a map of the areas being affected including San Francisco and LA.

“It is down to a thing called Santa Ana winds. It is a hot dry wind that comes from the interior. It is very very dry with very low humidity and that helps to fuel the fire.”

Although she added that conditions could improve by Friday, “right now, it is looking horrific and, unfortunately, conditions will only get worse”.

Fans flooded Piers with messages of support after he posted the picture.

One fan wrote: “Come home Piers. The last thing we want is a national treasure to fall victim to these fires. I’ll even pay for your plane ticket home and will wait at Heathrow for you with a sign saying “welcome home Piers.”

Another wrote: “Please be safe Piers. We want you back on breakfast next week.”

A third wrote: “Terrifying. It’s horrible to feel so helpless here in the UK.”
