Janet Street-Porter was ‘so worried’ about Coleen Nolan when she took break

Janet Street-Porter has said that she felt "so worried" about Coleen Nolan after she took a three-month break from Loose Women.

Coleen took a break last year after she suffered vicious trolling following an on-air spat with Kim Woodburn.

The panelist – who lost her sister Bernie Nolan to cancer in 2013 – told the Mirror's Notebook magazine that she was forced to take a break from the ITV show because of the disgusting messages she received from trolls.

Opening up about the difficult time, she said: "I just had to take those three months off last year because everything became on top of me.

"I was really burnt out, I just needed to go home, get everything back into perspective. Stop being on the phone, stop being on computers, that sort of thing.

"I was so worried about Coleen," Janet admitted. "It really affected me and when Coleen told me she was going to take some time out I got completely upset about it because she was always such a resilient sort of person and she was always full of jokes and fun. I really valued our relationship.

"So when Coleen took a step back I thought, 'Well… it really affected her'."

But Coleen said that she was glad she recognised it and could take a step back.

Earlier this year she told the Mirror she was incredibly happy to return to the panel but had struggled with the online abuse.

She said: "You have to be made of steel to not be affected by hurtful comments. But when people were saying things like, ‘I hope you die of cancer like your sister’, it was time to stop."
