Les Dennis has taken a swipe at ex-wife Amanda Holden and their break-up as he joined Christopher Biggins’ podcast Show and Tell. Les and Amanda were married back in 1995 but divorced in 2003 after the Britain’s Got Talent star had an affair with Neil.

Former couple, Les and Amanda, had an 18-year age gap and first met while performing in The Sound of Music in 1993.

They temporarily separated five years later following Amanda’s affair with Neil before they eventually divorced in 2003.

Les, who recently celebrated 50 years in showbiz, chatted about his career with Christopher and how his separation from Amanda affected him.

Reminiscing about performing in pantomimes alongside Hollywood star Mickey Rooney, Les revealed the theatre in Sunderland would always play Christmas songs.

However, unfortunately for Mickey, this included Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Frank Sinatra, with whom the Hollywood star had some personal history.

Les explained: “Mickey would get very angry, because of course, Frank Sinatra ran off with Ava Gardner [Mickey’s wife].

“It would’ve been like me having to listen to Bob The Builder every night.”

The joke was in reference to the fact Neil famously voiced the children’s character for 14 years.

During that time the star also recorded two number one singles as the fictional tradesman.

Amanda previously called the fallout from her affair with Neil the darkest time of her life.

She said: “I brought it on myself, I appreciate that, but nothing will ever be as bad again. It was a very dark time. It got to the point where I felt I could hardly breathe.

“Les proved to be my saviour. Ironically. So the person I’d hurt the most in the world was the one who was there for me,” Amanda told the Daily Mail.

Since their divorce was finalised, both have gone on to marry again.

Les tied the knot in 2009 with his new wife Clare Nicholson and the couple now have two children.

Clare is Les’ third wife as he was previously married to Lynne Webster before his relationship with Amanda.

Meanwhile Amanda married Chris Hughes in 2008 and together they have two daughters.

In 2014 Neil finally said sorry to Les for the affair he had with his then-wife Amanda.

The star, who has previously said he had not apologised to Les, made the admission on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.

He commented: “I feel sorry for how the situation was dealt with and I feel sorry for how emotional Les seemed to become. It was very difficult for him and for that I’m very sorry.”
