Love Island fans start petition against getting dogs shipped from Russia after Tommy and Molly Mae’s puppy dies – The Sun

LOVE Island fans have started a petition to end the cruel trade of getting dogs shipped from Russia after Tommy and Molly-Mae’s puppy Mr Chai dies six days after coming to U.K.

Tonight, the influencer, 21, and her boxer boyfriend took to Instagram to inform fans that the tiny Pomeranian did not die from being on an airplane.

The petition, which at the time of publishing had already gathered over 5,000 signatures, is asking to end the sale of puppies from third party breeders in the UK who fly in dogs from countries like Russia.

It states: “Why do we need to fly puppies over from Russia?? A poor puppy being put under that amount of stress at such a young age. This cannot be good for the health of such a young pup.”

The petition also references Lucy’s Law, which prohibits the sale of pups from third party sellers.

Lucy’s Law became active in April 2020 and says a buyer should be able to physically see a puppy interact with its mother in its place of birth.

Lucy Jayne who began the petition wrote: “Why this may fall into a grey area whether it breaks Lucys Law, i still believe it to be unjust and therefore I feel the government laws need adjusting to protect these animals.”

Adding to her emotional protest, Lucy wrote: “I have no evidence that the puppies are coming from a farm in Russia (although there is speculation), if anyone does I would welcome they share their evidence. My main point is that I personally don’t think morally It is right that these poor animals are being transported over 1500 miles across the world when we have UK based breeders breeding the same breed of dogs.”

Many fans agreed and signed their names to the passionate cause.

One wrote: “I believe this should be stopped! Poor puppies are dying because they are not receiving the proper care they deserve. They are being sold for thousands of pounds and interbred carelessly to give them the “instagram look” and it is wrong!!”

And a second added: “It's cruel and inhumane!”

While another penned: “It’s not right”

Speaking tonight Molly-Mae said: "I can't even explain how happy we were when we got him. He was absolutely everything. He was just perfect. We just had our little baby – it was like we'd had a baby.

"For the first two days he was absolutely fine. From two days in, we started to pick up on a few things so we took him to the vet. I could tell something wasn't right."

She added: "The vet rang up and said Chai had a seizure and he died. Tommy literally threw up everywhere. I was like: 'It's a prank' and she was like: 'No, your dog has died.'"

Molly-Mae also hit back at claims they had taken the dog out before he'd had has vaccinations, saying: "Chai had every single one – we have the paperwork. He was four and a half months old."

Explaining she had paid for a fast-track autopsy, the star claimed: "Chai's skull wasn't fully developed. Part of his brain was exposed. In a tiny dog, any knock probably wasn't very helpful."

She added: "Whilst we completely understand everyone's opinions about being shipped over from Russia, what you need to understand is that is not what made him die."

Today, the breeder who sold Tommy the dog insisted the pet was healthy, saying she had "rigorous processes in place to check animal health".

The account for Tiffany Chihuahuas & Pomeranians wrote on Facebook: "I only work with trusted people and have a small network of reputable breeders who care for their dogs to the very highest standards and see animals as part of their family.

"I have rigorous processes in place to check animal health and the suitability of forever homes providing support and guidance for health and wellbeing throughout.

"I have worked with dogs my entire life and this has never happened before."
