‘Masked Singer’ Semi-Finals Recap: Butterfly Is a Destiny’s Child Member!

The first face-off that night on the FOX singing competition was between the Butterfly and the Fox with the Butterfly hitting the stage first to sing a powerful rendition of Demi Lovato’s ‘Sorry Not Sorry’.

AceShowbiz -“The Masked Singer” returned with a new episode on Wednesday, December 4 featuring a big revelation of one fan-favorite contestant. Prior to season 2 finale which was fast approaching, four remaining singers took the stage to show off their skills.

The first face-off that night was the Butterfly and the Fox. The Butterfly hit the stage first, singing Demi Lovato‘s “Sorry Not Sorry”. Guest panelist Joel McHale said, “It is by far the best performance I have ever seen from someone dressed up like a bug.” Jenny McCarthy guessed Michelle Williams (II) while Robin Thicke thought she was Leona Lewis or Monica. Ken Jeong went with Kerry Washington.

Performing “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton was the Fox. Robin guessed A.J. McLean with Ken still thinking that he could be Jamie Foxx. As for Jenny, she thought the one behind the mask was Taye Diggs. It was later announced that the winner of the first face-off was the Fox, meaning the Butterfly would go to the Smackdown.

The next performance was a battle between the Thingamajig and the Tree. The former offered a charming rendition of “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble. Jenny believed he was a basketball player. Robin named Montell Jordan as his guess, while Ken confidently said the Thingamajig was Brian McKnight.

Following it up was the Tree who sang Bonnie Tyler‘s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. Nicole Scherzinger thought she was Lisa Kudrow, while Jenny guessed “Saturday Night Live” alum Ana Gasteyer. Ken thought the Tree was Nia Vardalos and Joel thought she could be Megan Mullally. The winner of the face-off was the Tree!

For the Smackdown Round, the Butterfly belted out Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer”. Meanwhile, the Thingamajig attempted to win the battle with “Caught Up” by Usher. Eventually, the audience mostly voted for the Thingamajig which meant that the Butterfly was sent home that night.

For the final guesses, Jenny, Nicole and Robin believed she was Michelle Williams, while Ken thought she was Melanie Brown (Mel B). Joel guessed Victoria Adams (Victoria Beckham). And it was revealed that the Butterfly was indeed Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams!

“It was a beautiful experience. Yes, I’ve been on big stages, but for me personally this was something for me to know, like, ‘You got this,’ ” Michelle said of her time on the show. “I haven’t worked all year, since December of last year, so this is a way to come back strong, and I’m so glad to share it with y’all.”
