‘NCIS’ Star Cote de Pablo: “What You’ll Never Know About Michael [Weatherly]"

Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly starred on NCIS together from 2005 until de Pablo left the series after nine seasons in 2013. While on the show together, their characters boasted one of the most enjoyable to watch will-they-won’t-they dynamics in television history: one that started with playful banter and transitioned into a slow-boiling romance.

Cote de Pablo surprised audiences worldwide when she appeared at the top of Agent Gibbs’ staircase in the final moments of the season 16 finale. After witnessing the return of the long lost and beloved Ziva David, fans have been wondering if the man behind Agent DiNozzo – Michael Weatherly – is soon to rejoin the cast.

While Michael Weatherly is currently leading Bull and is unlikely to return to the series (especially following the recent sexual harassment claim), fans know that the star likely cherished the time he spent alongside Cote de Pablo. Cote de Pablo sat down for an interview with Rachel Ray, a few seasons back, to talk about the show, how she handles international fame, and to spill a little info about the man we know as DiNozzo. She explained to Rachel Ray how, after years of working alongside Michael Weatherly, she’s come to appreciate aspects of his personality that strangers would never be so fortunate to witness.

Cote de Pablo opened up to Rachel Ray about Michael Weatherly. Rachel Ray asked, “what is it like to work with him every day?” Pablo stated:

“I know Michael in a totally different way. You know? He’s like my brother. We see each other every day now for eight years. So, quite obviously, I know him in a different way. And, at times, a very intimate way. And, what you’ll never know about Michael is that he is, at times, quite vulnerable. He’s a sensitive guy. He really is and that’s one thing that I think he has a little bit of an issue showing, but he is quite remarkable.”

Rachel Ray goes on to comment on how sweet Michael Weatherly is before venturing into a discussion concerning his “jokester” ways. While de Pablo knows her co-star can be quite the comedian, she explains, “under all of that, he’s a very sensitive guy.”

Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly’s on-screen chemistry was likely due, in large part, to their off-screen dynamic and friendship. The two clearly respect and admire one another, as indicated by their decision to work alongside each other again (though, this time, behind the scenes).

According to the writers, Cote de Pablo is set to appear in the season seventeen premiere of NCIS. However, beyond that, not much is known regarding her upcoming role. The actress once explained that she left due to the lack of respect on behalf of her character’s narrative, so, let’s hope that the writers stepped up their game when it comes to Ziva.

Cote de Pablo does not need to be in every episode; however, it’s likely that, since the actress agreed to come back, she has been promised a captivating arc for the next season.

As for Michael Weatherly, fans who are waiting for his return shouldn’t hold their breath. However, given the dynamic between DiNozzo and Ziva, it may only be a matter of time until the showrunners come knocking on his front door.
