Nick Jonas Reminded Kelly Clarkson the Jonas Brothers Once Opened for Her: 'I Had No Idea'
Kelly Clarkson, a powerhouse singer worth an estimated $28 million, forgot the Jonas Brothers opened for her on tour.
Nick Jonas refreshed Clarkson’s memory about the Jo Bros. opening for her in 2005 during a guest appearance on the 37-year-old’s TV program, The Kelly Clarkson Show.
The three-time Grammy winner chose to bring up the fact that she “had no idea” during her light-hearted conversation with the musician and actor who stars in the film, Midway, out now.
Clarkson: ‘I just got really cool’
Kicking off their conversation during the episode that aired on Nov. 14, 2019, Clarkson revealed right away that she “had no idea” the Jonas Brothers even opened for her in concert, according to People.
“I was reading the pre-interview for this — I had no idea that y’all opened for me in 2005,” Clarkson said. “I feel like I just got really cool,” she added.
Jonas says Clarkson got them ‘a lot of gigs after that’
Jonas, who is married to Priyanka Chopra, talked about how Clarkson helped him and his older brothers, Kevin and Joe, make it in the music industry. But not before he downplayed opening for the “Since U Been Gone” singer and coach on NBC’s The Voice.
“No one cared about us in 2005, we were just coming up and basically, to get other gigs, we listed the other acts that we’d opened up for,” he told Clarkson.
He continued, saying that the gig wasn’t all that glamorous.
“But that really just meant that we were on, like, the outside stage in the parking lot while you were playing for 40,000 people,” he explained.
Jonas who stars in the upcoming movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, which opens in theaters on Dec. 13, 2019, joked with Clarkson that he and his brothers are indebted to her.
“But you helped us get a lot of gigs after that, so thank you. We owe you 20 percent,” he told her with a laugh.
The Jonas Brothers have certainly had no trouble getting gigs this year. After making the decision to reunite — learn what inspired Kevin, Nick, and Joe to get back together — while filming their Amazon Prime Video documentary, Chasing Happiness, they released their first studio album in 10 years titled, Happiness Begins, to great success. Their songs “Sucker,” “Cool,” and “Only Human” have gotten tons of love with digital downloads and radio play.
If that wasn’t enough, they have a memoir, Blood: A Memoir By The Jonas Brothers due out in March 2020.
Clarkson sang ‘Sucker’ on her show
Things came full circle when on a very early episode of her talk show — the show’s second episode ever — Clarkson sang a Jonas Brothers song for a segment she calls “Kellyoke” where an audience member picks a song for her to sing, according to PopSugar Celebrity.
Clarkson showed just how good of a vocalist and performer she is when she belted out the lyrics to “Sucker” in front of her live studio audience.
Jonas and Clarkson will meet again on the next season of The Voice when Jonas joins the show as a coach. We already know he’ll make a great addition to the show and can’t wait to see him in one of the competition’s signature red chairs.
