Paul heartbroken by new discovery about his MND in Corrie

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) headed to the hospital with Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) in tow in Wednesday’s (May 31) Coronation Street to hopefully be put on a trial that would help him manage his MND symptoms.

While there isn’t a cure for motor neurone disease right now, Paul knows certain drugs can help him with his deteriorating health.

He previously went to the hospital with Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) to talk about the trial, but Paul was told by a nurse that if he doesn’t have the specific gene, he won’t be accepted.

Tonight, Paul’s meeting with the specialist was different this time, as Billy and Bernie joined him.

Prior to this, Paul spent a lot of the morning supporting his family and telling the likes of Todd (Gareth Pierce), Summer (Harriet Bibby) and Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) that he’s dying.

In the hospital, it was bad news for Paul as the doctor explained that as there isn’t any history of MND in the family, it is very, very unlikely he has the gene for the trial.

A hopeful Bernie observed the comment about the doctor not being 100% certain, pointing out that they can go private to get Paul some help if needed.

He then jumped in, telling his mum that if she wants to support him, the hopefulness has to stop.

Back at the flat, Paul and Billy acknowledged that people are processing the news in different ways but ultimately, as there isn’t a cure for MND, there simply isn’t any hope.

Paul told his partner that after realising this, he feels different. He knows that he’s going to die sooner than expected, so it’s time to make the most of what he’s got left.
