Phillip Schofields Dancing On Ice replacement worked out by fans

Fans of Dancing On Ice believe they've worked out who could replace Phillip Schofield as presenter of the iconic ITV show – and it's not who you might expect.

Phillip gave up all his ITV work, including his roles presenting Dancing On Ice and This Morning after he admitted to an affair with a much younger male colleague.

He previously hosted both shows with Holly Willoughby and was originally due to return for a new series next year. Dancing On Ice has been an ITV staple since 2006, although the series went on a break between 2014 and 2018.

Phillip made the announcement that he was quitting the channel on 26 May, saying: "I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me."

Although a number of names have been talked about as Phillip's replacement, TV viewers think they have the answer, in the form of popular singer and TV presenter Jane McDonald.

Jane was a last-minute replacement for Phillip as host of the British Soap Awards earlier this month, with social media users flocking to praise her in the role.

Speculating on her suitability for Dancing On Ice duties, one person commented: "How long before Jane McDonald becomes the face of We Buy Any Car and presenter of Dancing On Ice?"

Another added: "Jane McDonald and Stephen Mulhern for the next Dancing on Ice presenters." And a third said, simply: "Why can’t she present Dancing on Ice."

Dancing On Ice isn’t due on ITV until January 2024, a spokesperson told Metro.co.uk last month. They explained that the series isn't currently in production and that "further announcements" would be made in "due course".

Meanwhile, Jane has announced her next TV move – joining the cast of Celebrity Gogglebox with her best friend Sue.

Over on Twitter, Jane said: "I'm going to be appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox with my best friend Sue – it's going to be an absolute blast! We’ve shared some unforgettable moments over the years but I am really looking forward to spending time together on this wonderful show. @C4Gogglebox."

Alongside the exciting announcement, Jane shared three throwback snaps of the pair from over the years. The three snaps were clearly from a number of different eras as you could see the difference in the pair as time has gone on.

And all may not be lost for Phillip, 61, as he could land a job at opinion-orientated news channel TalkTV to 'rebuild' his career when he is ready to, according to a PR expert.

Andy Barr, CEO of 10 Yetis Digital said TalkTV could potentially be the 'perfect place' for Phillip, telling the Daily Star.: "TalkTV could be the career rebuilding platform that Schofield needs right now. If the current media spotlight reveals no new allegations then this is entirely recoverable for him and TalkTV could be the perfect place for him to start again in a high-profile media environment.""
