Piers Morgan announces break from Good Morning Britain
Piers Morgan has announced that he and Susanna Reid will be taking a well-earned break from Good Morning Britain after this week’s episodes.
The no-nonsense presenter revealed the upcoming departure on today’s show, where he confirmed Kate Garraway will be joining the programme on Wednesday before they leave for the summer.
‘We’re going to talk to Kate on Wednesday before we go off for the summer and I’m sure she’ll have something to say about this,’ Piers shared.
Piers and Susanna last took a break from Good Morning Britain duties in May to coincide with half-term.
The duo usually take six weeks off starting in July, meaning they won’t be back on the ITV daytime show until September.
Today’s episode saw Piers give an update on Kate’s husband Derek Draper, who has recently emerged from a coma after battling coronavirus since March.
‘It’s probably not quite as positive of a story that the papers might believe,’ Piers said.
‘It’s certainly premature to think Derek is in any way out of the woods, sadly. He remains in a critical condition.’
Elsewhere, Dr Hilary Jones shared his beliefs that coronavirus will still be in our midst at Christmas and through until spring.
‘What we’re going to see is a steady number of cases for several months,’ Dr Hilary predicted.
‘We’ll probably see little spikes here and there and hopefully, we’ll be able to lock those places down to protect everybody else.
‘But I think we’re going to be living with this until Christmas and into spring.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
