Piers Morgan blasts BBC’s Dan Walker as ‘nasty piece of work’ as feud reignites
Dan Walker appeared to try and keep the peace with Piers Morgan in a recent interview, only for the ex-GMB star to keep the flame of their feud alight.
The pair have a long-running rivalry, with Good Morning Britain and BBC Breakfast getting caught up in a ratings war each year.
Despite their very public Twitter clashes, Dan suggested Piers was a "nice guy" behind it all.
During an interview with The Times last month, he said: "He likes to throw a few insults around, but underneath all the froth I think there is a decent bloke fighting to get out."
Refusing to hold back, Piers replied to the remarks in his latest MailOnline column, branding the BBC star as a "nasty piece of work".
He wrote: "My supremely virtuous former breakfast TV show rival Dan 'Halo' Walker said about me today: 'Underneath all the froth, I think there is a decent bloke fighting to get out'.
"Ironically, I've always thought that underneath all Dan's faux saintly froth, there's a nasty piece of work fighting to get out."
Piers, who stepped down from his role on GMB last month, then claimed BBC Breakfast's dwindling ratings would have Dan "stamping on kittens".
He bragged: "GMB finally overtook BBC Breakfast in the ratings, on his watch, on my last day."
Dan wasted no time in poking fun at Piers during his high-profile exit from GMB, which followed a backlash to comments he made concerning Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The day he quit GMB, Piers famously stormed off-set during a debate with his co-star Alex Beresford, only to return to his seat 15 minutes later.
Dan mocked his storming off on Twitter, and criticised Piers' coverage of the groundbreaking Meghan and Harry interview.
The BBC Breakfast star tweeted a picture of himself and his co-host Louise Minchin with the words: "This was taken a few seconds before I stormed off set because Carol said it was going to be chilly this weekend."
Piers was quick to hit back, pointing out GMB had pulled in higher ratings than its rival show, despite the controversy.
"I'm surprised BBC bosses didn't storm in and drag you off set after yesterday's ratings came in," he said.
Dan then took their feud to the next level, replying: "Congratulations on your ratings.

During March 8's episode of GMB, Piers said he didn't believe "a word" Meghan said, after the Duchess revealed she had contemplated suicide in recent years.
