Piers Morgan makes jab at This Morning drama: Theyve stepped things up, havent they!

Piers Morgan has commented on ITV's recent This Morning drama, telling OK! that "they've stepped things up" since his exit. The Talk TV host won a gong for Interview of the Year at the TRIC Awards.

In May, Phillip Schofield left This Morning and ITV after confessing to having had an affair with a much younger colleague. This Morning was then plagued by accusations of "toxicity" on set.

When asked whether he was missing the drama at ITV after winning a TRIC Award on Tuesday, Piers told OK! in an exclusive interview: "Well, I thought I brought a bit of punch to ITV morning. But my God, they've stepped things up, haven't they!"

Piers added that he's enjoying his time at Talk TV, where he hosts Uncensored with Piers Morgan. "It's a brand new network obviously but the show is doing great, we're getting some big, big interviews.

"Cristiano [Ronaldo], Kanye West, Andrew Tate, people like that. It's been an amazing run. Donald Trump, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. I've been really enjoying that. It's been exciting!"

When asked whether he'd ever return to Good Morning Britain, Piers said that he'd "never say never". "If someone wants to pay me £50 million to go back to Good Morning Britain, I'll think about it. It might have to be £60m actually. I'm worth it!"

The TV presenter previously commented on the This Morning drama earlier this month, claiming that "everybody" at the TV channel knew of Schofield's affair with his colleague.

Piers was an anchor on Good Morning Britain from 2015 until 2021, when he left the show after refusing to apologise for comments he made on-air about the Duchess of Sussex following her interview with Oprah Winfrey. After saying that he didn't "believe a word" of Meghan's admission to Oprah that there was a point where she "didn't want to be alive anymore" during her time in the royal family, ITV released a statement announcing that he would be leaving for good.

"Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain," ITV wrote in a statement. "ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

The Talk TV presenter recently told Amol Rajan back in May that he thought his Good Morning Britain colleague Alex Bereford was a "treacherous little p***k". The weather presenter confronted Piers over his Meghan Markle comments the day before he left, resulting in Piers storming off set.

The TRIC Awards 2023 also saw the likes of Roman Kemp, The Chase, Peter Crouch and Emmerdale receive gongs, as well as EastEnders star Danielle Harold who received an award for Best Soap Actor. Meanwhile, Judi Love and Kelsey Parker were among those walking the red carpet.
