'Power Book II: Ghost': Will Cane Get Back Into Monet's Good Graces in Season 2?
Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 is right around the corner. The drama series follows Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.). Following his father’s murder, Tariq tries to begin a new life as a college student, only to be pulled into the drug game — the same life that his father was trying to outrun. In his quest to earn money, Tariq finds himself entangled with drug queenpin Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige), and her three children, Cane (Woody McClain), Diana (LaToya Tonodeo), and Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray).
Though he began as his mother’s right hand, Cane proved he could not be trusted in season 1. But will he get back into Monet’s good graces this season?
Inside Monet and Cane’s tumultuous relation in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
From the moment we meet Cane, Monet seems to lean on her oldest son fully. Out of the three Tejada siblings, he seems to be the only one to have a real heart for the business. “Cane is off the chain, he’s real savage,” Blige told USA Today. “Monet’s not afraid of him, but everybody else is. She’s a savage, too.”
However, we know that two alphas running a business can only prove to be disastrous.
Will Cane get back into Monet’s good graces in season 2?
It looks like Cane and Monet won’t be at odds for much longer. As we’ve seen in the season 2 trailer, the voltage gangster is working hard to make sure that he and Tariq’s connection to Jabari Renoylds’ (Justin Marcel McManus) murder stays dead and buried. Moreover, though Monet ousted him from the Tejada family inner circle, it appears that he will be working overtime to get back onto their good graces again.
In fact, it appears that Cane will use his insights into his mother in order to recapture his role as her right-hand man. The official press release from Starz about the second season has a ton of hints. It reads, “[Monet’s] kids, Dru and Diana, question her moves as she grows more distracted, especially when Monet goes as far as trusting Cane again despite his actions against the family.”
Cane will play a major role in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2
Not much can rattle Cane, even though he often lets his temper get out of hand. However, being ostracized from his family at the end of Power Book II: Ghost Season 1 undoubtedly affected him. “When it comes to Cane, he’s all about family,” McClain told Complex. “His thing is family first.”
Now, as he’s likely to regain his mother’s trust it appears that Cane will play a major role in season 2, not just within the Tejada family, but in Tariq’s life as well. Following his disrespect of his mother in season 1, his father, Lorenzo (Berto Colon), orders him to get beat down. We’re not certain he’s ever forgiven Lorenzo for that, so things are bound to get chaotic.
Fans also aren’t convinced that Cane is Lorenzo’s biological son. Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp also spoke about the origins of Cane’s name. During an Instagram Live, she explained that Cane is actually just the character’s nickname.
Cane’s real name is Lorenzo Tejada, Jr. Kemp revealed that the name Cane came from his childhood nickname, “Hurricane.” “As a kid, he used to run around the house so much, he acted like a hurricane,” she said. Since hurricanes are literally disasters, things are likely to get more intense with Cane this season.
