Riverdale season 5: Writer makes show announcement after season 4 brought to early end

Riverdale came to an abrupt end this week as Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse) was given yet another dramatic ending to a season. While The CW and Netflix show was just gearing up to bring its outlandish story to an end for another year, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has forced production to stop on the show. This meant season four of Riverdale was three episodes shorter than intended.

The final episode – episode 19 – wasn’t devoid of all drama, however, as Jughead and his team were stunned to receive yet another video tape from the mysterious antagonist.

This tape was a little different however, as it showed off Mr. Honey (Kerr Smith) being murdered, leaving viewers and the characters stunned.

With so many questions unanswered, viewers are excited to see where the show is going to go next – but they currently don’t have a release date for the ongoing story.

With so much confusion surrounding what is going to happen next on Riverdale, the fans decided to ask the writers directly.

In particular, one fan asked Ted Sullivan – writer for Riverdale – directly on his Twitter account.

Responding to some praise for Alice Cooper star Madchen Amick, the fan asked: “Very proud of her!! But I have a question.

“Will season five be 25 episodes long, or will you guys end season four and then start season five right after?” (sic)

Considering season five has been commissioned for 22 episodes next year, it would make sense for the trio of season four’s episodes to move over to the new season.

Ted’s response didn’t quell the fears of fans too much, however, as he replied: “Way above my pay grade.

“No idea. That’s a WB question. And honestly, no one has any idea what the world is going to be like.

“We’ll just have to roll with it like the rest of the planet and do what is best for society and others.”

Concluding his statement with a heartfelt plea to his fans, Ted added: “Be smart! Be safe! And be nice to each other!”

With so much left in the air, viewers will no doubt have to continue rewatching the show until they get more Riverdale episodes in the future.

Some fans have already been rewatching the show, and have begun pointing out some blunders and plot holes.

Most recently, viewers noted an error with Betty Cooper’s (Lili Reinhart) phone during a scene which saw her being called by the Black Hood.

The scene in question shows Betty receiving the phone call, and a lot of drama being pressed onto the scene.

The fan wrote: “When Betty receives the call from the unknown number her iPhone rings audibly.

“When it shows a closeup of her iPhone the mute switch is down, meaning the phone is on silent.”

Could the Betty have been imagining this phone call? Or is it simply a production blunder?
