Riverdale season four was meant to be the end of a chapter in the lives of the Core Four as they were due to graduate. Not only this but FP Jones actor Skeet Ulrich and Hermione Lodge actress Marisol Nichols had quit the Netflix and The CW drama so series four was meant to be their last. However, as the unfilmed episodes will now feature at the beginning of season five, both Ulrich and Nichols will return for the upcoming series. But what could season five mean for the mysterious video tapes, and whoever made them?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale.

While the main focus of Riverdale season four was Jughead Jones’ (played by Cole Sprouse) “death”, there was another storyline lurking in the background.

The residents of Riverdale were receiving VHS tapes containing hours of footage of their homes.

Another load of tapes were then later sent out – but this time, the camera was a lot closer.

The creepy voyeur stepped up their game when they shared a video of two people recreating Jughead being murdered in the woods by girlfriend Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), wearing creepy look-a-like masks.

This was only the start though as another video was sent to Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), with “actors” imitating the moment her dad Clifford Blossom (Barclay Hope) murdered her twin brother Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines).

Then during the final episode of series four, Jughead and his friends were imagining what would happen if they murdered their strict principle Mr Honey (Kerr Smith).

This fantasy, however, soon came to life through the disturbing tapes.

Jughead and half-brother FBI agent Charles Smith (Wyatt Nash) began investigating the tapes in the hope of finding out who was behind them.

Is Jellybean behind the videotapes in Riverdale?

In the final moments of Riverdale, Jughead and Betty saw a video of not only both of them but the whole Riverdale High gang standing by a tied up man wearing a Mr Honey mask.

The teens then gathered around “Mr Honey” and looked as if they were seriously hurting him and potentially killing the man for the video.

So while there is clearly more than one person involved in the making of the tapes, who is the mastermind behind it all?

One Riverdale fan suggested Jughead won’t need to look far from home for the voyeur.

Taking to Reddit, musty_panda first outlined a common theory suggesting Charles who is behind the tapes.

However, they then move on to the next theory which is that Jughead’s younger sister Jellybean (Trinity Likins) is behind it all – and fans seemed to be in favour of the idea.

They explained: “This one’s a little less concrete, but still reasonable (and also my personal favorite). She [Jellybean] also had access to Jughead’s computer and could’ve gotten his story.

“She hasn’t really been a big character in the show, and thus not in many scenes.

“But when they were watching the video of fake Betty killing fake Jughead, she walked in the room and everyone freaked out and shut it off.

“This isn’t strange as a situation, but it’s weird that the writers would take the time to add in that weird interaction with someone who has been conveniently out of the way the rest of the show.”

The Riverdale fan continued: “She then was the one to bring the video up to them that told them to go to the cabin.

“Again, maybe she found it there and brought it up to them, but it’s strange from a writing perspective to not just have them find it.

Commenting on the theory, one fan said it would make “a nice little twist” while another said they “really do hope it’s Jellybean”.

Another added: “Yeah it would be good like it’s a bit strange that she’s always playing mine craft she’s probs lying about that it’s something I can imagine Jellybean to do.”
