Strictly 2019: Michelle Visage and Giovanni address ‘fights’ after shock elimination

Strictly Come Dancing favourites Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice got the chop this evening following a tough battle against Saffron Barker and AJ Pritchard in the dance off. Michelle’s Couple’s Choice routine to Madonna’s Vogue left little to the imagination on Saturday night and she found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Michelle and Giovanni – who dedicated their Blackpool performance to the LGBTQ+ community – danced their routine again but the judges unanimously opted for Saffron’s Quickstep.

Following the dance off, both couples went to get their fates from the judges.

Craig Revel Horwood started proceedings, saying: “I’m having a really difficult time with myself over this – this normally doesn’t happen to me. I normally make a very quick, instant decision. This has been really, really difficult.

“One couple took all the notes on board and one couple was better.

“And the couple I’ve decided I would like to save is Saffron and AJ.”

Motsi Mabuse followed suit, saying: “I feel like we saw two brilliant dances. It’s so, so tough this week, I have to say. But I’m going to save Saffron and AJ.”

Bruno Tonioli continued: “Ahh, it’s so competitive it’s unbelievable.

“First I want to congratulate both of you. You both really raised the game tonight – much, much better than Saturday.

“And it’s very hard to decide but based on what I saw, somebody I really thought nailed the dance, right on the money… Saffron and AJ.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas was also in agreement with her fellow judges, but the decision had already been made.

When asked about her time on the show, Michelle told Tess Daly: “This whole experience has been amazing.

“At 51-years-old and never danced in my life, I never thought I’d be able to do what I have done and to have such an incredible partner. To be here for my husband and my kids and the entire community, that’s why I did what I did. I am so honoured to be welcomed by my new friends here.”

Turning to Giovanni, Michelle couldn’t help but praise her partner, saying: “Obviously I couldn’t have done it without him. He has been so amazing, so transformative.

“Just my rock and my best friends throughout this entire competition. He could take it as much as he could dish it, and I needed somebody like that. I’m going to miss seeing him every day. I would never have wanted to do this with anyone else.”

Professional dancer Giovanni also paid tribute to his partner, joking how the pair bickered throughout training.

“You are wonderful. We laugh, we cry, we fight and we argue and we’ve done everything but I’ve loved every single second.

“I think you are inspirational and wanted to send a message. You are a phenomenal lady and I am so proud of everything we’ve done.”

Giovanni added: “I’m here to say thank you, thank you, thank you.”

The pair had previously faced reports saying they been butting heads previously, but Michelle had insisted they were having “fun and laughs” while being “thrilled” to be dancing together in Blackpool.

Michelle and Giovanni will be opening up on their elimination on Monday night’s It Takes Two on BBC Two at 6.30pm.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 7pm.
