The Crown bosses reveal plans for modern day series as Netflix fans beg for Harry and Meghan episodes – The Sun

THE Crown fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming seasons after the decision by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to distance themselves from the British royal family.

However fans may be in for disappointment as the show's boss Suzanne Mackie has confirmed that she doubts the series will ever take fans up to the present day and the 21st century issues facing the Queen and country.

Mackie told PA: "To be honest, whatever the life of The Crown is after where we are now, I doubt we'll ever go as far into the present day.

"I think we'll probably – we won't travel into the present day."

The Netflix show portrays the life of the royal family from the time when the Queen was crowned. The current series takes place between 1964 and 1977, while the next series will go into the 1980s.

Mackie also admitted it was unlikely that the show would dramatise Prince Andrew's disastrous interview with Newsnight host Emily Maitlis.

However fans were not perturbed, and continued to share their support for the TV drama to focus on the bombshell announcement.

"We should figure out a way for The Crown to keep going until the Meghan Years," shared one fan, suggesting that "these Brits better turn American & give us 20 seasons".

Former actress Meghan has also been tipped to play herself in an upcoming season, with many fans making the same joke that Meghan Markle will win the Emmy for playing Meghan Markle.

Others however warned the pair, tweeting: "Have Harry and Meghan watched #TheCrown? They probably shouldn't f**k with the Queen."

Cast and crew are currently midway through filming for season four of The Crown, which will see the introduction of The X-Files actress Gillian Anderson playing former prime minister Margaret Thatcher and rising star Emma Corrin as Diana, Princess of Wales.

It also features Tobias Menzies as the Duke of Edinburgh and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

In a series of posts on their website, Harry and Meghan dropped the bombshell news that they were stepping back as "senior royals" although they would continue to "fully support" the Queen, and work to become financially independent.

It is understood Harry and Meghan had just begun talks with the Queen and Charles about their future roles when they made their decision to go public, and it has left the Queen "deeply upset" and Charles and William "incandescent with rage".

Buckingham Palace warned the couple their decision to "step back" from the royal family will be "complicated".

In a statement, they said: "We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."
