'The Mindy Project' and Other Network TV Shows Saved By Streaming Services

In recent years, video streaming services have become increasingly popular. Streaming services, such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu have created some of their very own shows to try and win the hearts of millions of fans. Another way that these video streaming services try to get ahead of the competition is by giving popular TV shows that may have otherwise been canceled, a new home.

So, if you thought that one of your favorite shows are gone forever, it may be that it just moved to one of the video streaming networks instead. Here is a list of some of the hottest network TV shows that have been saved by streaming services.

1. ‘The Mindy Project’

Many fans were ecstatic when they heard that Mindy Kaling would be starting starring in her own show. For years, we had watched Mindy’s portrayal of Kelly Kapoor on the hit TV series, The Office, and with the show coming to an end, we were overjoyed when we learned that we would be able to see Mindy’s spunky personality once again in the small screen.

This romantic comedy series features Mindy as an OB/GYN that has a hilariously crazy time trying to navigate through troubled romantic relationships, true friendships, and hectic work life. Many fans of The Office felt that this show had the same level of comedy, but had also added a whole new level of quirkiness which helped the show stand out from all of the other rom coms.

The Mindy Project was had aired on Fox in 2015 and was sadly canceled in 2015. Hulu was quick to pick up the show in 2015 and continued to make new episodes until 2017.

2. ‘Lucifer’

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Devil ever got tired of living in Hell? Well, according to the TV series, Lucifer, he would probably move to Los Angeles and open his own nightclub. This unique series follows the Devil himself, Lucifer, after he leaves hell and retires in LA.

Although he is the Prince of Darkness, it turns out, that Earth (and a homicide detective named Chloe) is having a weird effect on him and he is now starting to feel something that he has never felt before: compassion.

In 2015, Fox aired the first season of the unique and dramatic show and continued to run it for three more seasons, before deciding to take it out of their lineup in 2018. Netflix, however, decided that the Devil was not quite done telling his story, so the popular video streaming service decided to give it two more seasons before calling it quits. Season 4 aired in June 2018, and Season 5 aired in May of this year.

3. ‘Designated Survivor’

A Designated Survivor is someone who is a member of the U.S. president’s cabinet and chosen to become the leader of our country in the event that something happens to the president and other successors.

In this dramatic series, Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) was living his life as the Housing and Urban Development secretary when suddenly tragedy struck at a State of the Union Address and killed several cabinet members, including the President and Vice President.

This means that Sutherland’s character now has the daunting task of running for and becoming the  President and has to try and figure out the best way to become the kind of leader that the country deserves.

This nail-biting drama ran on ABC from 2016 until 2018 and then was picked up by Netflix for the third season.

4. ‘Community’

When Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) loses his law degree, he is forced to go back to college. Soon, he sees a pretty girl and devises a plan to tutor her in Spanish in order to get to know her better. Even though he can barely speak Spanish, he organizes a study group and is surprised when several people show up in the hope of being able to get tutored in Spanish as well.

The entire series is filled with funny antics and entertaining dialogue that left the audience entertained from beginning to end.

The showed first aired on NBC in 2009 and continued to run until 2014. In 2015, the streaming service, Yahoo Screen, picked it up for its sixth and final season, Unfortunately, however, Yahoo Screen shut down in 2016 and the streaming service is no longer available.
