ABC thriller Big Sky came to Disney Plus recently for UK fans to enjoy. The thriller is the latest by Big Little Lies showrunner David E Kelly. It follows private detectives as they begin the search for two sisters who were kidnapped from a remote Montana location. They team up with ex-cop Jenny Hoyt (played by Vikings’ Katheryn Winnick) and find they have a bigger case on their hands than they realised.

In a post on Saturday to her 5.3million Instagram followers, Katheryn showed a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes action as she confirmed the series had been wrapped.

Cheering could be heard from the set as she began thanking the cast.

The Vikings star said: “Thank you so much for all your hard work.

“I know this has been a challenging year but thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

“This was an incredible year. Thank you guys so much for everything.”

She later showed herself and her colleagues celebrating backstage shouting: “That’s a season wrap!”

Fans will know Katheryn best from hit series Vikings, in which she played shieldmaiden Lagertha.

The character’s death left loyal viewers of the show devastated.

As a firm favourite on the series, Lagertha became an iconic part of the historical drama.

She was loved for being fierce but humble, and fans were keen to see her reach her happy ending.

But unfortunately, this wasn’t to be. Her village was ambushed in the last series and she ended up fighting White Hair (Kieran O’Reilly).

Tragically, she survived the brutal fight but was later murdered by Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø) after he mistook her during a hallucination.

Vikings aired for six seasons on History and Prime Video, and had built up a loyal fanbase at the time of Lagertha’s death.

Katheryn said she had been aware of Lagertha’s exit from the show though for quite some time.

Speaking to NME, she said she “was not upset” when she was told Lagertha would be written out.

She said: “We had been talking about it for a while. If anything, I was like ‘when am I gonna go?!'” [Sic].

Kathryn’s role in Big Sky is a world away from Lagertha in Vikings, but Jenny is also strong and determined.

Speaking to Deadline in September 2020, David E Kelley said: “It’s very unscientific and inexact.

“If I find something I like then, I just cross my fingers, close my eyes and hope there are enough people out there that will find it interesting.”

Big Sky continues Tuesday on ABC in the USA and is available to watch on Disney Plus in the UK.
