What will happen in I Killed A Man Today?

In episode eight of season three, Kayce (Luke Grimes) finds out that John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is effectively retired.

Kayce is about to meet Tate (Brecken Merrill) but Monica (Kelsey Asbille) tells him he is with John elsewhere.

She tells Kayce John should enjoy his retirement, to which Kayce responds by saying his dad is not retiring.

Kayce is in denial as Monica explains how John spends all of his time with Tate, leaving Kayce to do all the hard work.

Fans are expecting Kayce will take the reins when it comes to handing over the ranch.

John will not be saying goodbye to the family business for good, but he is expected to be taking a back seat.

The next episode, due to air on August 9, will also see Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) continue her fight with Willa Hayes (Karen Pittman).

The official synopsis for the episode also reveals how Monica experiences a “harrowing ordeal”.

In a clip by Paramount Network on YouTube, Kayce and Monica are getting ready for the day when Kayce calls for Tate to come down.

Monica says he is not in the house and he is at the fairground looking at horses with John.

She says how Kayce has been spending “16 hours a day” doing his father’s jobs while he takes part in fun activities with Tate.

Fans are wondering what will happen to John in the next episode as he finds different ways to channel his feelings.

While some viewers are worried he may be hanging up the reins for good, others believe it is part of a wider self-discovery plot.

John has only just found out about Beth’s inability to have children due to the stunt her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) played on her at the clinic.

With this and the constant battle to protect his land from rivals and developers, there is a lot for him to be dealing with.

His lack of appearances on the ranch may be due to the fact he needs some time to himself to process what has happened.

In an interview with HeyUGuys, Asbille said she had been grateful the series had been renewed for a third season.

She said: “It’s incredible, especially after this quarantine I cannot wait to go back. It makes you so appreciative of your job and also of the audience.

“I know we had a hell of a time shooting the show but to know people enjoy it is very rewarding.”

Speaking about working with the rest of the cast this season, Asbille said: “It really is a masterclass, getting to sit in and watch these incredible performances.

“I constantly feel like I have so much to learn and that really speaks to the cast and our crew.”

Grimes also starred in the video interview with HeyUGuys, and he said working with the cast had been a dream come true.

He said: “The theme of the show is you are in this beautiful place and, as perfect as everything should be, there are difficulties and challenges.

“There are things as actors we have to bump ourselves up against to make these things seem legitimate.

“It’s very challenging but it’s also very rewarding and it’s been the best work experience of my life so far.”
