The lover of notorious convict Charles Bronson’s ex-wife has said he is ‘welcome’ to attend her funeral set for her 39th birthday, it has emerged.

Paula Williamson, 38, was found lifeless on her bed by boyfriend Peter Jones, 53, on Monday after he fell asleep downstairs at their home.

The trucker driver, panicked by the situation, called for emergency services at 6.30am as he desperately tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious, and the cause of death continues to be investigated.

Charles Bronson had married the former Coronation Street actress in 2017, but the pair divorced earlier this year following strains to the relationship.

It was however revealed earlier this week that Bronson, who is said to be ‘shocked and upset’ by Paula’s death, has hopes that will be released out of prison to attend his ex-wife’s funeral.

And Mr Jones has said that he would be more than happy for criminal, known for his violent outbursts, to attend.

‘I would welcome him. We’re hoping to bury her on the day of her birthday,’ Mr Jones told the Sun.

However before Bronson can think about seeing Mrs Williamson laid to rest, he will have to get permission from his prison governor.

Mr Jones also revealed that Mrs Williamson still had a special connection to Bronson, and wanted him to know first that she had started a new relationship after breaking up with him.

‘Before we announced to everybody, she wanted to tell Charlie about me first, out of respect, which I completely agreed with.

‘If Charlie wanted to meet me, I would quite happily visit.’

The 53-year-old recalled how Paula and her friends had enjoyed a booze-fuelled Sunday night before her death – but insisted they hadn’t taken drugs.

With a post-mortem due to take place to determine the cause of Paula’s death, but Mr Jones is adamant that it was not drug-related, as some ‘friends’ have claimed.

‘She was lying there, but there was no cocaine or tablets,’ he said.

‘People are trying to make her look bad, which is what they have always done.’

Paula appeared on Loose Women last year and admitted that she had a problem with alcohol and prescription medication.

She later said she had depression, anxiety and borderline personality disorder.

After her Loose Women appearance, Bronson said that she would be dead in two years if she didn’t ‘sort herself out’.

Mr Jones admitted that Paula had suffered from anxiety in the past month – and had felt unwell 24 hours before her death in the early hours of Monday morning.

But he added: ‘She was very happy. And very much in love. So was I. She got through some difficult times. We were making plans.

‘We were going to set a date to be married in the Bahamas. She had set her heart on that. That was her dream we were going to do it for her fortieth birthday in August next year. We were waiting for the annulment to come through.’

Any prisoner can apply for a special purposes licence to leave jail for a maximum of four nights for a funeral, marriage or medical treatment.

Mr Jones hopes to lay his lover to rest on what would have been her 39th birthday, on August 19.
