Chris Christie released from hospital after week-long Covid battle as Trump says Melania and Hope are ‘doing great’

CHRIS Christie has been released from the hospital after week-long Covid battle, as President Trump said First Lady Melania and Hope Hicks are "doing great."

The former New Jersey governor revealed on Saturday he returned from Morristown Medical Center after a week-long battle.

"I am happy to let you know that this morning I was released from Morristown Medical Center," Christie tweeted.

I want to thank the extraordinary doctors & nurses who cared for me for the last week. Thanks to my family & friends for their prayers.

"I will have more to say about all of this next week."

The former governor first revealed he was diagnosed with coronavirus a week ago, on October 3.

Christie had attended a "superspreader" event at the White House on September 26.

People were seen packed together in the Rose Garden at the White House during a ceremony, as Trump revealed Amy Coney Barrett as his nomination to fill an empty seat on the Supreme Court.

Many people attending the event were seen not wearing masks, and hugging at the events.

Christie himself was spotted maskless, talking with and hugging others.

Following the September 26 event, more than a dozen White House staff and people in the President's close circle – including President Trump himself, First Lady Melania, adviser Hope Hicks, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, and campaign manager Bill Stepien – have tested positive for Covid-19.

In an interview with Dr. Marc Siegel on Fox News on Friday, Trump gave an update on Melania and Hicks' condition.

"Hope is doing great. I just spoke to her a little while ago. She's doing great," Trump told Fox.

"She's young, she's strong, and she's sloughing it off pretty easily," he said of the former White House communications director.

He added that he doesn't think Hicks is on any medication, and her body is fighting the virus on its own.

Trump then spoke of his wife Melania's condition.

"Melania's doing great. She is sort of in the same category.

"It hasn't been very tough for her.

He added: "She's doing great. She's really doing well.

The same day he revealed his diagnosis, Christie said he was heading to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.

"In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon," Christie tweeted.

"While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure."
