Some 739 said this was why they were making a claim, followed by 505 who left it in a taxi and 302 saying breakages were caused by dogs.
Other reasons included blaming a baby, saying the phone vibrated off a table or it fell in the bath or hot tub.

Explaining how they were getting the children ready for bed one night, a customer explained to the company: ‘I put my phone on my bedside table whilst explaining the importance of brushing teeth.
‘When I wasn’t looking, my 18-month-old son got the phone and decided to drop it into the toilet.’
Though they didn’t make the list, insects also appeared a popular explanation for breakages.
One customer told how their ‘phone fell off my leg when a spider crawled on to me’, while another said: ‘A wasp flew on me at a theme park, and I dropped my phone face down and now the top of the screen is cracked’.
