Elderly man beaten in broad daylight behind Bronx charter school: cops
An elderly man was beaten unconscious in an apparently random broad daylight attack behind a Bronx charter school, police said Saturday.
The 71-year-old was behind South Bronx Classical Charter School III/IV on Third Avenue in Morrisania around 2:20 p.m. May 1 when the stranger approached him from behind and began attacking him.
The brute repeatedly hit his victim in the face with an unknown object. When he collapsed to the ground, the man continued hitting him until he fell unconscious, cops said.
Cops provided pictures of the suspect, who rushed off without stealing anything. Investigators are still working to determine a motive in the attack, if any.
The victim, who lives in the Bronx, suffered facial injuries, including a swollen right eye and a bloody lip. He was taken to Lincoln Medical Center, where he was treated and released, police said.
South Bronx Classical Charter School III/IV teaches children in kindergarten through the fourth grade, according to the school’s website. A school representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
