Farmers at the centre of viral TikTok row hit back at neighbour

EXCLUSIVE ‘I had a short fuse because we had been busy lambing’: Farmers defend their actions in furious hedge row with millionaire neighbour who ‘got it both barrels’ after ‘dumping trimmings on their land’

  • Rosie Howes, 27, and Scott Brane, 30, went viral for the TikTok of their argument
  • But the pair claimed they had a ‘short fuse’ because they had been busy lambing

Two farmers at the centre of a row that went viral on TikTok have hit back at their millionaire consultant neighbour and claimed they were ‘exhausted’ from lambing season.

Rosie Howes, 27, and partner Scott Brame, 30, made headlines yesterday after she posted a TikTok video of the confrontation with their neighbour Philip Cholerton, 56, over hedgerow trimmings.

But Mr Brame today hit back and said he had a ‘short fuse’ because he and his partner Miss Howes has been ‘busy lambing’ so they gave it to Mr Cholerton with ‘both barrels’.

He said: ‘I don’t usually make a fuss, but I had a short fuse that day because we had been busy lambing.

‘We had literally nearly finished lambing and I had been doing 18-hour days, so he got it with both barrels. I’m not normally like that. It was just the heat of the situation. We didn’t expect it to take off like it did.’

The couple who keep flocks of sheep on 200 acres of rented farmland were furious after they found the branches piled up in their field in Winfarthing near Diss, Norfolk.

Rosie filmed Scott as he picked up the clippings with the fork of his tractor and dumped them back into the garden on the other side of the hedge.

Her video which has had more than 620,000 views shows the couple swapping insults with their middle-aged neighbour after he confronted them.

Mr Brame explained away the bust-up which happened on April 9, saying he had lost his temper due to the pressure of working long hours during the lambing season for the 160 ewes which he and Rosie keep on fields in the Diss area and around Beccles, Suffolk.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, he added: ‘We had issues before with him cutting the hedge and dumping it on our side last year. Our landlords were upset and asked him nicely to clear it up and he got some men who were working for him to clear it up.

‘But they just dragged the bits of hedge across the field, leaving bits everywhere.

‘This time they were very upset because they are elderly and they asked me if I could do anything about it so I said, ‘I will just return it if you like’. They said, ‘Oh yes, that would be very neighbourly of you’, so that’s what we did.

‘But he was there when we were putting it back. I was so bloody tired, I just had a bit of a go. The thing that got me was when he said, ‘It’s your fault for never cutting my hedge’. But it was his hedge to cut. He’s not a farmer and he’s got quite a big garden.’

Rosie who lives with Scott in Botesdale, Suffolk, told MailOnline that she ‘didn’t really talk’ to her neighbour in Winfarthing.

When asked if she would try and make things up with him, she replied: ‘I think we are just going to leave it how it is.’

Rosie’s video posted on her TikTok account norfolkshepherdess101 showed Scott scooping up the hedge trimmings in his tractor with the caption: ‘Clearing up the nice neighbour’s hedge after it was dumped on our side without permission.’

Although he is not identified in the video, MailOnline can also reveal that he is former Shell executive Philip Cholerton, 56, who lives in a £1 million Georgian farmhouse.

Her video which has had more than 620,000 views shows the couple swapping insults with their middle-aged neighbour after he confronted them.

Mr Cholerton bought his five bedroom Grade Two listed home in 2013, and is a partner in the London-based consulting and services company NovAzure.

The marketing expert is described on the firm’s website as having 25 years experience as ‘a strategic leader within oil and energy retail and industrial businesses’.

He has been a partner since 2021 in the firm which boasts that it helps clients ‘fast track the transition to Net Zero in the areas of energy and mobility’.

Mr Cholerton states on his LinkedIn profile that the company’s aim is to ‘build long-term relationships of trust and act as a ‘thinking partner’ for leadership teams’.

He adds that he is driven by values which include ‘make the world greener’, ‘humility and learning’ and ‘honesty, integrity and inclusivity’.

Mr Cholerton also states on LinkedIn that he is treasurer at 13th century St Mary’s Church near his home. He did not respond to requests for comment.

The video shows Mr Cholerton appearing to complain, but he can barely be heard over the noise of the machinery, so Scott cuts it off and Rosie yells: ‘You dumped it here.’

He replies: ‘Every year you leave it a mess, you have no right to do that.’

Scott can then be heard saying: ‘You have no right to dump it on this side.’

The neighbour responds with: ‘You have never helped with the hedge whatsoever.’

Scott gets him to repeat what he says, before he replies: ‘This is your hedge mate.’

Mr Cholerton admits ‘I know’ before Scott demands: ‘So what the f*** are you doing cutting it and dumping it on this side?’

The marketing boss then adds: ‘You don’t give a monkey’s. You never, never cut that side there.’

Scott replied: ‘Why should I? It’s your hedge,’ before Mr Cholerton accused him of leaving ‘all that weed’ on his grass.

The farmer bit back: ‘I’ll leave what I f***ing want’.

After more inflammatory insults with both of them using the ‘f***’ word, Mr Cholerton responds: ‘Right, well I can put it back if necessary.’

Rosie then intervenes saying: ‘You ain’t gonna be putting it back, we’ll keep dumping it back in here, you can ring the police.’

Mr Cholerton then begins to storm off, shouting: ‘Oh p*** off, you nasty piece of work.’

Rosie replies: ‘No we’re not nasty pieces of work’ before Mr Cholerton launches a final bizarre insult, saying: ‘You’re a miserable stinking person,’ before adding ‘Yes, f*** off.’

Rosie shouts back: ‘Yeah we’ll f*** off.’

The couple complained to Mr Cholerton that he left a pile of hedge cuttings (pictured) on their land

The video has amassed more than 14,000 likes and over 1,800 comments from TikTok users who were left split over Rosie’s approach.

One user wrote: ‘The hedge is on his side of the fence. Even if you cut it, you are legally allowed to put the cuttings on his side.’

Another said: ‘You are completely right, however a little less language to the guy might have been better. Let the guy embarrass himself to the authorities.’

While a third commented: ‘Just returning their property as any good neighbour would.’

Rosie said earlier this week: ‘The hedge was planted without permission a long time ago, the hedge is his side of the fence.

‘He trespassed onto our field without landowners permission to cut it, then he had the cheek to leave his cuttings outside of the fence which is dangerous to our sheep.’

She added: ‘He’s done this before and made a mess on our field. He also lets his septic tank leak out onto our ditch which is pretty revolting.

‘The relationship with this neighbour has always been mutual until this. His reaction was funny to me.

‘He insulted us before the video and was very unpleasant hence why I decided to film – but I haven’t seen him since the incident.’
