- Grenfell residents offered £50 by researchers working for council to discuss fire
Grenfell residents have been left sickened after a market research firm working for the local council asked them to talk about their experiences – for £50 in cash.
Kensington and Chelsea Council has been accused of trivialising the fire in the London tower block, which left 72 dead in 2017.
The council has commissioned the firm to visit the bereaved, survivors and other residents and invite them to attend a ‘healing session’, offering £50.
Lesly Corzo, who lost friends in the tragedy, said the woman who visited her was ‘confrontational’ and ‘passive-aggressive’.

‘I took offence when she described it as ‘the Grenfell incident’. It belittles the tragedy. To me an incident is ‘I tripped and fell.’ ‘
Others described the visits as a ‘shameless PR stunt’.
A council spokesman said: ‘We have received assurances from the company that they have not used this language but we will be urging them to ensure these conversations are approached sensitively.’
